As most of you know, condoms were created so that individuals could prevent pregnancy and reduce their chances with being infected with an STI/STD. However, I found that male condoms that are sold in the US are generally poor fitting. I've used a variety of condom brands, and I usually only see a "Standard/ Average" size and a "Large" size. I don't think I've ever seen "Small" condoms in a traditional grocery store or pharmacy; I've only seen them in specialty stores.
I find that standards work well for men who have average width and girth (obviously). I also find that large condoms, especially made by Trojan tend to fit men with a wider girth, but do not do a good job with accommodating men with a longer than average length. Yes, they are slightly longer, but not by much. And of course they don't accommodate men who may have wider girth but shorter length. And men that are not less well endowed usually settle for the "Standard" size condom, which doesn't work at all because it doesn't fit the penis well, which can lead to seepage or a condom that will just slip off. XXL condoms seem to fit for the much larger and longer than average, and that's it. Anyway, the point is that penis sizes range in length and width, and there's a lot of penises that are going without a decent form of protection.
I get particularly annoyed with this because if I do want to use a condom, I want to make sure both my partner and I are protected, and with a partially exposed penis, that just doesn't work.
I find that I only have this problem in the States though. When I go to Europe (at least western Europe), there seem to be a variety of condoms that fit all shapes and sizes, including the wider/ longer/ shorter/ anything in between. However, I haven't visited places outside of Europe and the US, so I am unsure if ill fitting condoms are primarily a problem of the US.
After this lengthy explanation, the question I ask is, "Do grocery/ pharmacy bought condoms typically fit you or your partner? If not, do you still use them as a form of birth control? Do you think that condom companies should accommodate other sizes or are you happy with what we have?
