Birth Control

I have my tubes tied now but when I started with birth control I took the pills and hello they sucked because I never remembered to take them. Condoms sucked because they always snapped and I really dislike the feel of a condom breaking inside me. The most effective and easiest was the Depo shot. I never had any problems with it but it stays in your system a long time. Doc told me it may last 18 months. Like clock work after 18 months being off it I got pregnant with my daughter.

I like the IUD because it means no condoms and its known to work well. However, it triggered my vaginismus into a relapse and it hurt a lot to put in because i have never given birth. so it has it's down sides.

I adore the Mirena IUD. No periods, and the low levels of hormones don't make me insane.

On the pill since I was 16. I started out on the patch but my mom asked me to switch when she read about the ridiculous risk of blood clots. I've been on a few different pills and the one I'm on now works good enough. A little breast tenderness for a week and a half or so, a few hours of easily subdued cramps, and three to four days of bleeding, with only one really heavy day. Why not stick with it?

I've only ever tried male condoms and the pill. I like the pill, it's worked for me. I will admit, over the years I've been on the pill there have been a few instances of forgetting to take it, but I took it the next day and haven't gotten pregnant ever. Also, if you're on the pill, condoms are good to have on hand, or some sort of back-up birth control, because if you end up on antibiotics or certain medications at some point it can make the pill less effective!

We need male birth control pills, ones that don't screw up hormones and have many other side effects like so many birth control pills or devices available today for women.

We did pills and condoms, just to be on the safe side. Hubby had a vasectomy, though, so I have to say that's my favorite.

Due to a medical condition, I can't safely take the pill or other hormone-based birth control. Condoms all the way for me.

Been on the pill for a long long time, but I got Mirena (IUD) about 6 months ago and OMFG THERE IS NOTHING BETTER!!!
It's fucking AMAZING being able to have sex whenever I want, and have NO worries about remembering to take a pill or anything It's also stopped my periods, sooooo... that's amazing, too!
Best reproductive decision, EVER.

The pill is the greatest invention ever, although I heard thats its responsible for an emotional shift in society as a whole because it makes women like different things or something, isnt that weird?

I'm a smoker; the pill and patch all come with heart risks if you smoke, so IUD it is.

Anything you don't like about the IUD? I've been thinking about making the switch.

I don't use anything any more since me and my husband are trying for another baby but before that I prefered condoms because pills and the shot caused me to have my period 24/7

I enjoyed the patch when I was on it (for over a year). I had to get off of it because of my migraines and am now down a certain kind of pill. I don't like pills because no matter what, I always seem for forget them.

My only other concern with the patch was wherever the patch was placed there would be a rash. But it wasn't enough to bother me.

I did Depo for one cycle and I will *never* do it again. It completely messed up my body, caused me to be very irritable, loose a lot of my hair, gain about 25 lbs during the 3 months I was on it even though I upped my exercising and watched what I ate, and a few more less appealing side effects

And I HATE condoms lol

This will actually be possible in the future if scientists develop a drug that blocks sperm ion channels. Unfortunately science usually requires one hell of a waiting game to go from concept to market.

I've tried hormonal birth control before, sort of "middle of the road" as far as hormone levels go, and I still got symptoms indicating it was too high in estrogen and progesterone. I'm going to try a low dose pill, but I'm not holding my breath.

For now, condoms and spermicide, depending on the time of the month. I wish I had the money for paraguard.

I use the Nuvaring and I love it. No cramps, shorter, lighter periods, no mood swings anymore and my insanely high libido is still insanely high.

I currently only use condoms, but I'm strongly considering Mirena in the near future.

We use the pill and the male condom, and haven't had any problems so far (other than occasional hormonal meltdowns because of the pill). I plan on getting an IUD in a couple years.

There are tons of threads on here about the IUD. I suggest you look at some as there are lots of people weighing in there.

As for myself, I use the Paragard (copper) IUD. No hormones, effective for around 10 years, and completely worry-less. Makes my periods a bit heavier and cramps a bit worse, but I still use "Light" everything for feminine products, so I'm not complaining at all.

Just the male condom. I have considered an IUD, but I have heard too many stories of IUD babies and complications, so I'm unsure.

I love the pill because it really helps with my acne and for birth control. but I also use a condom because I'm protecting against pregnancy and STI's. I am really worried about getting STI's so I will do almost anything to avoid that problem

I have tried the pill in every different strength available, which caused non stop spotting, the patch which also caused the non stop spotting, and the shot which made me bleed heavily for 3 months straigh, it was horrible. For the longest time I just used male condoms. However they came out with the nuva ring and my dr suggested it since it is localized hormones instead of in the blood stream, ive been using it for over a year now and love it. Since Im in a monogamous marriage we don't bother with condoms we both don't like them and know we are clean so we are safe
