Do you notice a difference in vaginal/discharge smell before your period?

Contributor: Noira Celestia Noira Celestia
I almost always notice that right before my period there is a noticeable difference in smell. I'm curious if this is something a lot of people notice or not. It makes sense that change in hormones would effect vaginal smell. What differences do you notice?

Of course! Hormones, shedding of cells and ramping up for Bloodgate Monthly will change the fragrance of a vagina.

I don't menstruate anymore, so I can't say for sure. I always noticed the discharge being different though right before I would get one.

I don't notice changes as much as I used to since I started taking oral contraceptives. I think that's because I no longer ovulate and my hormone levels stay fairly consistent through the month. I've heard other women saying they smell muskier at certain times of the month and sweeter at others.

It's actually one of the things that reminds me my period is coming. It has a stronger, more distinct smell, almost sweet. I can usually smell it on my panties when I'm handling them, or if I'm masturbating I'll notice it on my toys or fingers. Most of the month, though, I have almost no scent.

I always notice a change, either emotionally or virginally. I always thought I was the only one who dealt with this, because it is not something women openly talk about. The first thing I notice is smell, the smell is a little more noticeable. I wish it was something that did not happen.

I've never noticed to be honest. There are times during the month that I have a stronger scent, but I've never really thought about how close to my period I might be. My husband can taste a difference at the very least, I know that much, lol.

That's interested. I've never asked any of the men I've been with about taste. I've tasted myself, but I don't think I've done it enough times to notice any differences.

He's the only one who's ever said anything about it. He says it's like a slightly metallic taste.

Copper! I can smell it and it drives me nuts.

By the way, did you know that people with higher amounts of copper in their bloodstream typically have higher IQs than your average bear?

In addition to vaginal smells, my general body smell changes, not bad, just different. I'll tell my SO I've been getting headaches/bellyaches and he'll lean in and smell my hair and tell me I'm about to start. O.o

It's one of the first indicators that my period is coming for me as well.

There are normal scent and discharge changes throughout every womans cycle. It may be noticeable more to some than others but its normal.

I've only ever really noticed a thicker discharge, or else a huge mood swing. The smell only changes during my period, and I use wipes to keep it from becoming bad.
