Do you prefer a male or female gynecologist, or does it not matter?

I've had both, and both seem to forget sometimes to be considerate! I've had a few very kind, very reassuring male docs, and some not so much. One male ob/gyn chose to talk to my husband instead of me when *I* was on the table. I was so not amused. I came out feeling like I had been violated. It took me a very long time to get over that.

The females I had were always gentle, but some were rude or inconsiderate.

I currently see a female midwife for my female issues. She's much more patient and looks at the whole picture (tests, exams, emotional wellbeing, diet, etc.)

I prefer female. I'm just not very comfortable exposing myself anyway, and having my doctor be female helps a bit.

I've had doctors engage with my husband when he's in the room, which is fine with me, but ignore me for my husband when I'm the patient? No way. They both would have gotten a piece of my mind.

If I remember correctly, I was in quite a bit of pain, and my husband asked if I was OK, as I was freaking crying. The doctor was like, "Oh, she's fine." Even the nurse was whispering to me to make sure I was OK. I've never been back to that office. I'm still angry thinking about it.

I do not have a preference, as long as they are a good and professional doctor. I currently have a male gyno.

I've only had female so far, but I've always requested women.

I just feel more comfortable talking about my vagina and discharge and periods with women.

honestly, i have had a few female gynos.. and didn't like any of them. i thought each one was either distracted or just didn't care about me or my vagina.
then i started going to my mom's gyno, a male. and i love him. when i didn't have insurance, and knew i was paying totally out of my pocket, he gave me a family discount so it was significantly cheaper. and hes always treated me like a person.

to be frank, i think men go the extra mile not to appear to be a pervert.

i prefer female just because i am shy, but i have a male doctor gyno who delivered my oldest. Honestly it doesn't really matter but if i had to choose who i was going to see i would rather see a woman.

I agree. I have said it before, but with a few specific exceptions, I prefer male doctors.

Most female doctors have spent most of their adult lives showing how "tough" they are. They don't usually care about menstrual cramps, menstrual fatigue or endometriosis or pregnancy problems, as they usually don't experience these issues.

I found men much more empathic to my health issues. I actually had a female doctor refer to migraines (which nearly wrecked my life) as a "disease of housewives who want to get out of sex." WTF? This women didn't even ASK how often I have sex, simply assumed "migraine patient" meant "doesn't have sex." I've gone to men every since.

I prefer females because they tend to sit down and stare straight at your crotch a lot less. they stand up and look at the wall as they check your ovaries. much better

it doesnt matter for me. BUT, I am particular on my OBGYN. I go to the same dr I went to for my oldest, and because of how well he is, my sister and sister in law have all went to him, and cant stop raving over his bedside manor.
