Do you use birth control? What type?

MEL, you said:we have been told by doctors that me getting pregnant would be quite difficult. I was told the same thing. My Man and I let our guard down, had unprotected sex for the first time in SEVEN years and I got pregnant. Many years and a few kids later, I had uterine surgery and was again told, "You have scar tissue, the chances of your getting pregnant are very small." I was on Depo for a year and a half and got pregnant after my second cycle after I went off of it. Determining who is going to have a "hard time" getting pregnant is a guessing game in medicine.

Whatever you are using seems to be working, but if you don't want kids you may want to look into well planned Withdrawal, or even polyisproine or polyethylene condoms in a large. There is a site which will make non-latex condoms in any size you like. I know Durex makes a large size non-latex condom, but it used to have a high breakage rate (which is why we use Withdrawal) but this company makes custom made condoms.

I'm just saying as a nurse who has worked in Women's Health, when a doctor says, "You may have a hard time getting pregnant." He usually cannot be absolutely sure. I know both Airen Wolf and myself found that out, we were both told this, and we're both mothers to a brood of Little Ones. As we both wanted kids, it was OK, but there are always options.

Just looking out for you, that's all.

Oooo, your wife has a strong constitution. I used to call these "Hot Tamales!" For me, the searing hot pain and continued burning prevents pregnancy, by preventing sex completely.

Years ago, I used to use spermicidal foams and creams, they worked better than the "estimated real world use" charts said (a year or so, and I never got pregnant) but I developed an allergy to them.

I use the Depo Provera shot. It is very potent. I was off of it for a whole year before I got pregnant with my son. I love it because I do not get any periods whatsoever. Ever. I get the cramps and all that but I do not have to worry about the mess. I used to worry that it would prevent me from having children, but I have one now so if it doesn't happen again I won't complain

IMO it is a great method, but everyone is different and what works for me might not work for someone else.

I'm on nuvo ring as well and really like it. The only cons about it is that it's pricey and sometimes gives me headaches. Yes, it stays in for 3 weeks and then you take it out for the 4th week. It's very easy to insert and take out since it's a thin oval shape. You kind of just squeeze it a little and the ring goes in. My boyfriend and I have never felt it during sex. He feels it only when he fingers me. Hope this helps

I've only ever taken birth control pills and it's worked well for me and helped me with other issues like hormonal acne and reducing the severity of my periods, but I'm wanting to try something that I could use once and not think about again for a month or more. I'm afraid of something like Depo-Provera though because I heard it can make you gain weight and it's not like you can take it out if it doesn't work for you!! D:

Only withdrawal. We've used this method for many years successfully. Before that, we used condoms for a while.

My niece, who is not that much younger than me (I became an aunt when I was just a child), had a stroke as a side-effect from her birth control medication at the age of 26. (She has recovered well, thank goodness, but it was terrifying at the time.)

This should be a multi-answer one. I used BCP and J and I also use condoms every time.

no need... I had a partial hysterectomy years ago. And I have said since, of all the things I've lost, I miss my uterus the least.

NO side effects? Lucky you. I'm in peri right now, and it's a hot flash, night sweat, mood swing, climax robbing, skin thinning, UTI causing, yeast infection producing mess.

The man is fixed. I was on the pill up until about 6 months ago. I started getting pain in my legs and I have bad circulation so my Dr suggested I just go off.

He has never had his count done but we aren't worried. If it happens that is fine. If it doesn't that is fine also.

Agreed. My mom was told she would not have children. She was told that it is not even something she should ever consider.

Yet here I am typing to you.. and she had my sister 5 years later. No special treatment (it was the 70's). Nothing. Just the old wives tale of propping your hips up after.

Never say never

I take continuous birth control skipping all the inactive pills. I've done it for the last 4ish years to prevent pain from endometirious. It's pretty effective at both the contraception and the pain control thing.

I use NuvaRing but not currently while the boyfriend is in China. Condoms make me gag and they hurt me, pulling out and the trhythm method don't count (not to me!), the Pill maes me crazy and I can never remember to take it, and the IUD gave me PID and infections galore.

The upside is not having the remember the damn Pill everyday, plus I know exactly when I'm horniest during my cycle so my guy and I can usually plan visits around this time. But because I'moff the ring for now, I am horny every damn day and it's driving me up the wall.

I haven't noticed any weird side effects...yet.

Gosh I have tried so many types! Right now I am on the pill again. I use Yasmin 28s. It seems to be the only thing that helps conrol heavy periods and the most painful cramps ever.

I had an IUD once. It ended up getting infected and caused pelvic inflammatory disease. That was NOT fun. They had to remove it at hospital and give me the most painful antibio injection shot in my leg. I cried like a little baby and I *LIKE* pain..lol

I tried the Nuva ring as well I liked it for sure although my husband could feel it during intercourse. You wear it for 3 weeks and remove it by sticking your fingers up there and pulling out the ring. It's really easy to find up there and won't get lost or fall out. Only problem for me was it didn't help the cramping like the pill does.

I was also on depo shot. I spotted for 6 months straight after being told it would go away after 3 months and I was fed up. Now my doctor won't even give to her patients because of the side effects associated with it.

Ahh birth control fun.

Oh and I got preggers on the pill too... *laughs*

Hubby will be getting the snipsnip when the time comes.

I had the IUD for about a year and a half then it just, well, erm, came out on its own one day. IDK whats up with that. Now I'm on the pill and remembering why I chose the IUD in the first place.

I was on the pill for 5 years then when we tried to have a baby I was told it wasn't possible for us. We had our first son with fertility treatments and after a horrible birth experience I was told I'd never be physically be able to have anymore. We didn't even bother with birth control after that. Year later I had my second child. After him I figured I would go on depo. When we wanted to have another it took 18 months to come off the depo before I was able to conceive. Now I have my tube's tied - I'm so done
