Douching with Coca--Cola?

I have never heard that one... what is in Seltzer water that would kill bacteria? I thought it was just carbonated water?

I think right now there is a whole thing going around about douching with vinegar to prevent a pregnancy which sounds dangerous to me. Also I read recently about a girl who died from douching with Drano.

All these things seem preventable with better sex education!

Drain-o... NO! I am going out on a limb here... but I feel like you shouldn't have to specifically tell people not to douche with Drain-o. TO me that seems like suing McDonalds for the coffee being hot. But hey, I am all for better sex-ed.

I agree with you! It seems like you wouldn't need to warn people against something so totally obviously wrong and dangerous!

Kinda sounds like being told not to use a hair dryer in the shower, lol

Drano?! I remember a quote like that from Torch Song Trilogy... but why on earth would someone do that in real life?

I am usually too busy making toast in the shower to try blow-drying my hair!

Hmm, I would think that toast would end up getting really soggy

I wrapped the cord around the shower nozzle, and then the toaster hangs sideways right under the nozzle. Doing it this way keeps the toaster close enough to the wall that it doesn't get wet... like going behind a waterfall.

Mythbusters disproved this one a while back - and the sugar could trigger a yeast infection, or the carbonation could cause an air embolism. Do not do this, seriously. Spermicides can be found in most grocery stores - use one of those.

It has a lot of phosphorus in it. That is what rusts the nail. There are plenty of foods, (including most dairy products) which are high in Phosphorus. I think people should be left to investigate and make their own choices about what they put into their bodies.

Not a big fan on the Government being a Nanny for me.

I LIKE a good cold bottle of Coca Cola, once in a great while, but in my MOUTH, not anywhere else.

Gary, I think the myth got started in the 40s or the 50s when NO good birth control was available to unmarried women, and few boys would use a condom. Women wanted CONTROL over their reproduction, and would resort to often VERY dangerous chemicals, household implements and even medications not meant for birth control just so they wouldn't get pregnant.

It has air bubbles in it. You are asking for an air embolism. I doubt it kills bacteria, and normal washing WILL "deodorize the area."

Women used to do this (douche with Drano and other caustic chems) to cause abortions, when abortions were illegal. It actually COULD cause an abortion, at the risk of destroying your vagina, your cervix, your uterus, and other various and sundry organs. People who are desperate will do anything, even things which seem and are very dangerous.

See what happens when people are denied Choice? Death, destruction and illness. People are GOING TO FUCK. The best thing Governments can do is let medical research take place, let safe alternatives be marketed, leave women alone and get the hell out of the way of other people's reproductive choices.

Actually, I heard that the whole "McDonald's coffee incident" thing really was McDonald's fault. I read that they had their coffee *way* hotter than it should have been.

According to link :

"Before trial, McDonald's gave the opposing lawyer its operations and training manual, which says its coffee must be brewed at 195 to 205 degrees and held at 180 to 190 degrees for optimal taste."

Generally the coffee served at home and other establishments is around 135-140 degrees Fahrenheit. At between 180 and 190 degrees, any beverage spilled on the skin will cause 3rd degree burns within two to seven seconds. Over 700 claims were made against McDonald's and lots of people got 3rd degree burns, but they still refused to change their policy.

Here's another good link to check out on the story: link

So yes, while the coffee was indeed hot, it should not have been that dangerously hot.

Very Interesting! Thanks for the info. Now that you mention it, that whole thing has been so widely talked about that the facts are taken for granted.

No problem I was among the people who thought "Well no duh, it's coffee, it's *supposed* to be hot". But then one day a while back one of my teachers brought it up and told us the true facts and how alot of times people will omit or distort facts to the point that people don't get all the information and then everyone gets the wrong idea via hearsay.
