Garlic...?

Contributor: SecretToyLover2 SecretToyLover2
Has anyone here cured their vaginal yeast infection with a clove of garlic? Here is a link describing the directions:

A girl at work stands by this 100% and says she does it everytime she gets a yeast infection, and that over times her yeast infections have become way less frequent. I'm just really skeptical as to if it really works or not. And I don't feel like putting garlic in my vagina if it wont work.

Sooo.... Has it worked for you?

Garlic kills yeast? I have never heard this and would not try this method without a doctor's opinion or proper medical research to support this.

I'm a gal of science unless I see an actual written study I wouldn't trust this one. I take a pill to help if I get these and it works the best out of anything, besides I think the garlic could cause more problems then solve, but I could be wrong.

I am just into at home remedies (when they work, and only when they work and are SAFE). I am on a lot of medication and more only makes things worse.

I would like to add that my doctor, when I visited him this morning, mentioned that this is okay and safe to try. He said people have been doing it for years. It's just a matter of if it works for you because it wont work for everyone. So that's why I'm doing this poll. To see how many people it has worked for.

I have actually heard of this.

During my last pregnancy I tested positive for Group Beta Strep, which scared the hell out of me, since I was frighten for my babies safety, however I read up on it. I learned that Garlic cloves were used as a treatment for this and many other vaginal health issues. It thought about doing it, but instead I got Garlic Tabs and took them daily. I can't testify to it working, I ended up having my baby too soon after.

I was freaked out about using garlic in my vagayjay too.

I cure yeast infections one of 2 ways. I either douche with a garlic water or I drink on a glass of garlic water.

Drinking seems to be the best. It takes a few times for get used too, but it does help it alot. Garlic is an amazing home remedy for everything! It's a powerful natural antibiotic.

I worked in alternative medicine for 5 years so I can tell you garlic has antifungal properties and yeast is a fungus but I haven't personally tried it but never had a yeast infection.

However, a few things to know SUGAR feeds yeast so if you're drinking soda or sugary fruit drinks, eating sugary foods LAY OFF until your infection is gone.

Plain yogurt helps as does the pills acidophilus which is the good bacteria found in yogurt.

One question....Who in the heck thought to put garlic in their vagina to begin with???? I haven't heard of this, but my first thought was goodbye oral sex. I would use the tablets first, drink alot of cranberry juice and visit my doctor.

I forgot to add, after I became sexually active, I was getting yeast infections and UTIs every other week. I had my partner tested and we both took showers before and after sex but it wasn't helping.

The doctor had me on cranberry tablets, drinking a TON of water every day and using Monistat (WHICH IS TERRIBLY PAINFUL!). It wasn't helping. I found out about garlic and started using it. Now I get either maybe once a year.

Needless to say, I swear by it haha

I've never heard about fresh garlic curing yeast infections, but it is a powerful bacteria killer. I take enteric-coated garlic pills daily, maybe that's why I've never had a yeast infection?

SamiKay, next time you treat for a yeast infection buy the Monistat kit with the little tube of cream in it. Have your partner apply that on his penis everyday for about 3 days. If he is not circumcised make sure it's applied under the foreskin. That helped me when I had the same problem.

Second suggestion and this is an old one, urinate before and immediately after having sex. Wipe front to back or cleanse well with mild soap. Urinating helps move any bacteria that can get moved around away from your urethra.

Third suggestion, check your lube if you use any. If it contains glycerin toss it. Glycerin feeds the yeast that gives you a yeast infection EF has a ton of great lubes without the stuff.

Showering honestly doesn't always help, in fact if you clean too much you can disturb the natural flora that keeps the yeast at bay and cause a yeast infection. Also if you douche, stop it it's way bad and has been linked to higher incidences of yeast infections

Hope it helps, and yes garlic is amazing Koreans use it to cure everything but I would NEVER stick anything into my vagina that I didn't know was clean.

Also please be careful with garlic it does harbor a bacteria called Clostridium botulinum which can cause botulism which is a very severe paralytic illness. Weirdly this stuff is used in Bo-Tox to paralize the nerves so your face doesn't droop! This is often found in raw garlic so it is often advised that you cook your garlic well or pickle it in vinegar....

Yes I'm full of weird useless facts

Thanks but I hate monistat. I have tried it in every way possible and every time I end up in so much pain all I can do is cry. It makes me want to punch myself down there because of the pain...

That's fine, if you have a brand that you like better by all mean s use it most brands have a kit with a little tube of cream that contains the same medicine just have him use that. Just about every over the counter treatment for yeast infections contains Miconazole which is an anti-fungal.

But one question for you, is it just Monistat that gives you such a wicked reaction or any vaginal suppository? Because if you have that reaction to all of yeast infection kits I would talk to your Dr about being screened for an allergy to Miconazole and the next time you have a yeast infection ask him to prescribe you an oral anitfungal that is is not Miconazole.

I have frequent yeast infections. I've tried all kinds of things including garlic about two years ago now. I did not work (nor anything else besides consuming lots of yogurt and hoping it goes away). Perhaps I have a different strain of infection or it is something else! Monistat or anything over the counter doesn't work either, it seems to make it worse. I usually have to let it go away on it's own.

I've heard of this. I've also seen a few women with chemical burns from raw garlic being placed into their vaginas come into our office for treatment!

This will NOT cure a yeast infection (antifungal medication followed by lifestyle changes are the best treatment for these) snd can cause damage to the delicate mucosa of the vagina. Not to mention make you smell awful.

I would warn against it.

Personally, I use one dose of topical-internal FemStat over a 2 day period or at least 3 days of oral Diflucan. Both work like a charm.

I'm more inclined to consume garlic than insert it. I guess it would depend on how resistant to treatment your infection is. I haven't had a yeast infection in 20 years or more. If you go the garlic consumprion route it should be raw as some of its properties are destroyed by heat, and you will need large quantities. So the suggestion to find garlic capsules or tablets becomes more practical. My suggestion is daily garlic supplements, daily unsweetened yogert and a good multi vitamim is always a good idea. Now the hard part. You must completely eliminate sugar from your diet for a few months. When you have been infection free for a couple of months you may slowly reintroduce sugar gradually. The other suggestion I have found that works is sitz baths with 2 cups vinegar added and 10 drops of tea tree oil. Do this at the first sign of an itch.

Ticonazole (FemStat) is not only more effective than Monistat, but it is much more gentle to vaginal tissue. Monistat makes me burn like hell, but Ticonazole works great. I usually use one "one dose" tube over a two day period, because it works better that way.

I've never heard of it and probably wouldn't try it myself. I don't get yeast infections and I eat tons of garlic...I don't know, maybe there is a connection?

It's definitely an interesting topic though and it will be interesting to see if this actually works for the majority of people who have tried it.

I use a product called "Nature's Aid" as a lube on a glass dildo and use that as my all purpose miracle cure for any and all vaginal maladies. Razor knicks, ingrown hair, dryness, anal tears, ph imbalances, yeast issues... massage it in, I do this twice a day for a couple days and even after the first application I notice much less issues.

I also use it on my face for pimples, skin burns, small cuts, scar repair, anti-bacterial cleaning thingie on scrapes and cuts, insect bites, I even use it on my heels to sooth the soreness from standing for so long, cracked or chapped nipples... basically... I've got any external complaint I reach for this bottle.

Hope this helps a little!!!

I've tried this and had none of the ill effects P'Gell described, but I also wouldn't say that it totally cured me. It definitely improved the situation, but in the end I still bought some over-the-counter meds. It also gives you a garlicky taste in your mouth after some hours, haha.

omg I tried this. I was hospitalized for having a severe ear infection and was pumped full of antibiotics so when i was discharged I had a doctors appointment a few days after and she told me I had a yeast infection. It was my first one so i was horrified and I was only 17 at the time so I didnt tell my mom and tried to cure it myself. I tried the garlic, lol, its so funny looking back. I tied a string around it and put it up there all day, even while at work. I dont know if it worked or was going to because I broke down and told my mom and she bought me Vagisil. The worst part was my boyfriend was coming home from bootcamp a few days later. Luckily I was clear in time. I havnt gotten one again tho.

I have a friend that uses it whenever they get a yeast infection, and with none of the symptoms P'Gell described. I've had other friends/acquaintances try it (without adverse effects) with varying degrees of success.

So, yes, it can work, but not for everyone equally. From what I gather you have to catch it early on. It can be fairly hit or miss, but then again, so can over the counter treatments (which are really fucking expensive). Don't be alarmed if the clove develops some blue or green spots after being in your vagina, though. I've been told that the acidity of the vagina can turn bits of the garlic to green or, more commonly, blue. It's not harmful at all, but the garlic should not be left in if you feel any burning. It is possible that mucous membranes within the vagina could be superficially burned, which is never pleasant. If your vaginal tissues are already tender from irritation (and a yeast infection can certainly cause that) then the garlic may only irritate it further. But as mentioned above, so do OTC treatments oftentimes.
