Have you ever heard/ or have used coconut oil as a lube?

Contributor: Woman China Woman China
I've been hunting about looking into buying a new lube when one of my health freakie friends (I say that with great affection) told me about coconut oil and using that as a natural lubricant. And with coconut oil being an anti-fungal thingie, it helps to prevent infections.

She has claimed she's been using it for years as an anal lube and as a vaginal lube and as a body massage oil and that she and her husband love it and find it the best lube they've ever used.

I did ask her about using coconut oil on toys. She said sure. But then again, all she has are stone and glass toys. And yes, I don't think that would be an issue, but I've not been able to find any information about coconut oil used with silicone toys.

I know silicone toys use with water lube, and do a spot test with silicone lubes...

But this is a poll discussing using coconut oil as a lube.

Huh? I use it to cook with but other than lubing a frying pan I do know if I would use it any other way.

couldn't resist that last option on the subject of coconut oil as a lubricant I have never used it myself due to having mostly silicone toys however I have heard of others using it as a lube and massage oil.

Just stick with regular lube that is made for the purpose.

A couple years back my partner reached for the tanning oil (which was coconut oil based) for anal sex.

I didn't have a BM for two weeks. I was so scared! Never again.

I think oil is fine for silicone, but you can test patch to be sure. What it isn't fine for is latex condoms.

I've heard of it, and want to try it, but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe after the bf gets his vasectomy.

I've heard of this and I would agree that it should be fine for silicone (100% platinum cured) toys. Yes, it is a pretty good antifungal, but make sure you get 100% pure, virgin coconut oil. You may have to heat it up to make it liquidy enough.

As a side not, coconut oil-"based" tanning oil is not even close to using 100% coconut oil... Ugh.

I know!!! I was thinking of a different way to write in "Other" figured this was good enough.

I agree with you Elona... does coconut oil-based tanning oil even have the same properties as coconut oil?? I mean wouldn't that be as close as 100% cold pressed virgin olive oil and a bar of olive oil soap soap???

I have only ever heard of coconut oil that is 100% certified organic, virgin and all those other health aware naturalists buy. I've never heard that it is possible to get stuff that the naturalists and health aware folks buy. You learn something new everyday!!!

I've used it for a while as a natural moisturizer instead of lotion but I don't think it would hold up well as a lube.

I've tried it, and it works pretty well. I use coconut oil for a lot of things though. I've used it with toys (silicone and plastic only though) and had no problem with the toys reacting though.

I still like water based lube better, but coconut oil felt really nice too.

I have never heard of this. It sounds like something that they saw on the web, not the best place to take you sexual health advice from.

I've heard of it, but I've never really thought about trying it out. I need to remind myself to get some from the store sometime so I can try this.

I've used it as a moisturizer for my body and also down there, but not during intercourse or with toys. It kind of absorbs quickly for me and I really wouldn't want to slather it on too thickly, so I'm worried it won't hold up.

I have heard coconut oil has many health benefits, but I have never used it as a lube, though I have used it for a moisturizer.

never heard about it being used, does it cause any reactions or infections. Assuming it is plant based it might have glycerin in it?

Yes, heard of it. I haven't tried it because I fear the mess and greasiness. I might try it just before bathing.

Glycerin is the product of saponification of fats. It will not be found in pure coconut oil (the fat).

My wife and I have used coconut oil as lube many times with no problems. My wife especially likes it when I give her a massage using coconut oil. Has a light, silky smooth feel, and absorbs readily into the skin. Very inexpensive.

I've used coconut oil a ton as lube, but mostly for masturbation. I actually bought the oil when I was breastfeeding my baby to put on my nipples because it's good for the skin but I didn't end up continuing to breastfeed so later my boyfriend and I found ourselves without any lube and we decided the coconut oil would work and I actually love it! It can get pretty messy though =]
