How do you keep your period from getting on your bedding?

Contributor: Love Obsessed Love Obsessed
My period always ends up getting on my comforters or sheets no matters what. All of my pretty comforters I've bought over the years have been ruined. I'm thinking about buying a white set with white comforters but I'm not sure because I can't manage to keep my blood off of them.I'm not talking about during sex I don't have sex and have been celibate for a while now,I'm talking about just sleeping or sitting there. And my period aren't heavy when this happens the blood just seems to be attracted to my sheets moreso then my pads.

I use "Night Time" pads with wings. They go farther up the back and the "wings" help keep the blood from escaping.

I also used to (but don't anymore, unless we're having sex) sleep on an old maroon towel or folded maroon sheet. That helps. Sometimes I put a Liberator Throe under it.

Get to the stains first thing in the morning with full strength hydrogen peroxide. Use it on the dry sheet. Let it fizz then more! It should take most of the blood off. Then wash normally.

I usually don't have this problem, but on my heaviest days, I have to wear a tampon to bed. Sometimes I even have to get up at night to change the tampon, but using this method I don't leak anymore.

I use "Overnight" pads and I make sure not to put the "nice" sheets on the bed at that time of the month. You could put an old towel underneath you while you sleep, but if you move around a lot it might not prevent the sheets from being stained.

I never have this problem, my period is very light. That must suck.

Normally I don't have a period anymore but when I do, it's a bad one. I wear depends until the periods over; they work well for working in factories as well. When you don't have time every 15-20 minutes to go to the restroom and change your pads/tampons.

I've always just slept with a tampon in. If It's really heavy I might use a tampon with a pad, but have never had any bleeding that couldn't be absorbed by that.

I used to sleep with a tampon (though I know you're not supposed to.) I've since started to use a menstrual cup which is AWESOME! You only have to change them twice a day, and I just do before and after bed. Since they're large and made of sturdy plastic nothing can leak through them, and since they create a seal around your vaginal canal nothing can leak out of them. I highly recommend one.

Vinegar and cold water works, too. Both are good at removing the discoloration on the sheet.

It's perfectly fine to sleep with a tampon inserted, as long as you're pretty good at staying on the 8 hour plan and not say, sleeping for sixteen hours. Which for some women can be difficult during that time, as we tend to be more fatigued and sleepier than usual.

I 'double up' the first two days of my cycle, I have a cloth pad on (which is great cos I wash it once the heavy days are over and can reuse it.) AND a tampon in. I also have a mattress pad I can take off and wash should I leak so the only thing getting blood on it is my fitted sheet and the pad.

Also, peroxide works AWESOME for getting blood out of sheets. (My friend is an ER nurse, so she passed that trick onto me.)

I've heard of using peroxide but,was afraid it'd bleach my sheets. This last comforter had to have the stain on it over a month before I saw it.

I wear depends too sometimes but,was too embarrassed to say so.They help but are so stretchy on the sides I wonder how people wear them for there intended use.

I use a menstrual cup, which very rarely leaks, and you only have to change it about every 12 hours. They're total lifesavers.

Agreed! The only time its a problem for me is during the winters my flow gets REALLY heavy. There are times that I've worn a super tampon with a "night time" pad just so I didnt have to wash bedding in the morning.

You could try something like the Lunablanket made by Lunapads. It's a small, waterproof, washable blanket made to keep period blood off your sheets. It comes in pretty designs, too.
