How many people have been affected by STD/STI?

Never had one, and I plan to keep it that way! I've known a couple people casually that got a case of the clap, but nothing more serious than that. Protection is very important to me, and since my man and I are looking to broaden our horizons to MFF threesomes, it has become even more of a priority. Most people don't realize the majority of STDs are transmitted orally, and don't protect for that.

Recently, my man and I had a "date" with another couple (when we were looking into swinging, before we decided on 3somes) and wanted to get dental dams so we could be as safe as possible, should it go down that route. I live in CT, and we literally went to 15 pharmacies and 3 sex stores and came home with nothing. Most of the people we asked had no idea what we were talking about, except for a man at one of the sex stores who said he normally carried them but was out of stock at the moment. We were absolutely disgusted with the lack of self protection options offered. less

I overheard a conversation recently between my fighting parents that made me vote "I have never had an STD, but I know someone who has."

In this community where most of us tend to educate ourselves about safe sex and may or may not have adventurous lifestyles, I was curious as to how many people have been affected by STD/STI? Do you think we are more as risk because we are more sexual, or less at risk because we are more knowledgeable? less

I haven't had one. I knew someone who had herpes, he was dating a girl who didn't have it before him but didn't care if she got it supposedly. She figured it was okay because they were in a "long-term relationship". The relationship didn't last that long and now she's stuck with herpes.
Yeah, I don't think I would ever find that okay. less
