I am absolutely freaking out here... anyone have any helpful words?

Okay, so... Up until last month, I was on Trinessa birth control pill -- which I had been on, off and on, for over a year.

So... I'm just going to do a bullet point list here...

*** Last time I had sex was on January 26th, when I was visiting my partner. This was on the last day of active pills in my birth control pack.

*** I was on a combination pill. There was one day that I took a pill 7 hours late, as I had left the pill at the hotel and didn't realize I forgot it until I was on a train to another city.

*** At this point, I ran out of birth control packs, and so I have been off of the pill now for about a month. I have not been sexually active while being off of the pill.

*** I started bleeding as normal on the 30th, and continued for about... 4 or 5 days.

*** On Thursday, Feb. 7th, a few days after my period ended, I was masturbating and noticed a little bit of pink on my toy -- so, I was spotting, apparently.

***After that, no spotting, until Feb. 21st, when I was, again, masturbating. I wasn't being rough at all, or even using a toy. I bled a little throughout the day, and actually thought that my period was just starting. However, today there has been no blood.

So, that's my basic timeline...
I'm really worried that I may be pregnant, as every google search is telling me that spotting means implantation bleeding... I would like to do a pregnancy test to find out, but I haven't exactly missed a period yet, so I don't think it would be accurate.

I have gone on and off this pill several times throughout the last year (I know, I probably shouldn't do that) but I have never experienced spotting before.

I have made an appointment with a doctor, but they can't get me in until March 7th.

Can anyone reassure me a bit here? Facts? Thoughts? Kind words? I have two weeks until I can see a doctor, and I am absolutely panicked.

Good luck you you sweetie. If I were you before your appt. I would go get a good test from the store. Sometimes the $1.00 ones work and sometimes they don't. It does not hurt to try. It really all just depends. Have you noticed anything else? Like boobs swelling? Keep us posted.

No, nothing different at all, just random spotting. It's so frustrating not knowing.

First thing to do? Breathe. No matter what, even if you are pregnant, you're under five weeks and there's plenty of time to think everything through and make decisions.

There is always a possibility that you can be pregnant - on the pill, off the pill, using condoms, diaphragms and spermicides and all of that aside - but the probability is rather low.

Do you have any other symptoms?

- Heightened sense of smell?
- Nipple tenderness/soreness?
- Increase in appetite?
- Decrease in appetite?
- Lower back pain?
- Stomach discomfort similar to morning sickness or nausea?

I strongly recommend you going to a doctor and having them do a blood test to find out if you are pregnant.

Nothing else at all, just spotting.

My partner and I have been discussing the worst case scenario, and we're on the same page about the best way to move forward once we know for sure. So, at least there's that...

Ok, not to get like super graphic but how much blood are we talking about here?

Like a little bit of light pink in a slightly thick yogurt-like texture or are we talking actual true-blue "it'd leave a brown spot in your underwear liner" spotting?

I'm going to see if they can do that at my appointment. Hopefully my period will start up normally before my appointment, and kind of take away the stress...

If not... hopefully they'll do a blood test, as the urine test wouldn't be accurate until after I miss my period.

The first time I spotted, it was just a bit of light pink on the toy.

The second time, yesterday it was a bit more of a red color, but much more pink than brown. Really light consistency both times.

Thanks Stormy for adding the other symptoms. I had a brain fart at the time of reading and responding.

There's a really, really good chance you have a yeast infection from coming off the pill. The cervix gets irritated by the growth of bacteria and starts to slough cells in an effort to get rid of the problem.

You can buy kits at the pharmacy know which will tell you whether or not this is true.

I'm a guy, but going off the pill can wreak havoc on your repro system for a while. Get checked, but I am willing to bet you will be fine.

Well I've had this happen before, I get breakthrough bleeding or spotting quite frequently. It can depend on hormones, medication, stress, diet, etc.
Getting on or off the pill can mess with your body's rhythm and hormones so it can definitely be expected that you might have some weird periods or spotting.

Since the last month that you were sexually active you were fully on BC, the possibility of pregnancy is low.
The last time you had sex was on the day you took your last active pill for that month. At this point your body is already gearing up to get rid of the "nest" it's been building because you failed to get pregnant.
Then you appeared to have your normal period.
After you have your period you shouldn't be able to get pregnant until you ovulate again, which in most women is at least a week or two.
If you're really worried I'd suggest taking a pregnancy test to ease your mind.

I'm sorry this is bothering you though, I've been there myself.
I really hope everything turns out well and this stress goes away

Now that you mention the possibility of a yeast infection, I am remembering a few days early in the month that I had a bit of itching. It seemed like my clitoris, and the area around it, was unusually sensitive and itchy. I didn't think much of it, as it wasn't intolerable. I ended up treating it with the one day dose of Monistat (sp?). That was, actually, right around the 7th, when I had the first bit of spotting.

I wonder if it's possible that a yeast infection is still there even though I haven't had any irritation since then.

It's possible. I once had a yeast infection that had no symptoms. True story.

Also, I would tell you that you can have a bit of spotting around the time of ovulation which is perfectly normal, even if you haven't experienced it before now.

*hugs* Like Stormy said, breathe. I know it's hard not knowing for sure, but try to remain calm until then.

Breathe deeply, relax and forget about the issue for a few hours. Go do something fun and relaxing to break the obsessive cycle! If you can afford it, they do make tests for detecting early pregnancy, two weeks-I think. Get one of those and if it is negative, that will buy you some space and peace of mind. Do NOT treat for yeast infection until positive you are not pregnant!!!!

Huge hugs--take some time out! You deserve it!!

best of luck to you... the more nervous you are the longer it can take to start you period, It is possible that you are pregnant but it is also possible that you have worked yourself into believing that your pregnant when you are actually not. Just becareful incase you are and be prepared to deal with it how however you need to. I hope all works out for you, take care of yourself.

I would take an at home pregnancy test-the better ones out there can detect before you have a missed period!

Ah, sometimes a one dose doesn't kill it. Also yeast infections can be transmitted pretty easily back forth through things. So like if you used the same towel the day after or a toy you used that is slightly porous you could have reinfected yourself.

I do know this, when I stopped taking a low-dose progesterone pill it took my body a few months to get things straightened out. I noticed a lot of changes (one of which was getting my sex drive back in full force) happening and all of them were pretty positive. Your body is just trying to adjust your pH. If you're concerned about using medications to treat a yeast infection, eat a couple of containers of yogurt and see if that relieves the symptoms.

Everyone, I just want to say a huge thanks for reassuring me, and giving me some advice.

I am trying to keep myself busy for the next few weeks. Technically my periods not late yet, so I shouldn't be letting myself get so panicked. In all truth, I wasn't very concerned until I started googling. I was just curious, and thought it was odd. Then I came across comments like, "that happened to me, and I was pregnant!"

Of course I did also see a few comments that went something like, "I've had my tubes tied/haven't had sex in several months, but I'm experiencing the same thing..." but it's always easier to get worked into a panic over the worst case scenarios.

It SOUNDS easier than it is, but, yes, try to relax!
And Goggling helps, but mostly it just freaks us out, so try to avoid that! Heheheh.
No, really, it'll be alright. Just be the strong woman we all can be and take it one day at a time

Okay, so I went out and purchased a Clearblue pregnancy test. Well, a two-pack. I didn't test with my first mornings urine, though, mostly as I was impatient, and concerned.... but the instructions did say that the time of day didn't matter unless you were really early.

I'm not really sure when my period is due, as my schedule is quite random when I'm not on birth control. But, the Clearblue instructions said that I should test no less than 19 days since the last time I had unprotected sex (technically, I was using protection all along, but whatever). As it'll have been about 30 days since I've last had sex, I figured I was probably safe to give it a try. The results were negative. Maybe I tested too early, or at the wrong time of day. Or maybe the results are really negative (I hope!)

That said, my breasts are a bit sore today. Then again, my breasts get a bit sore a few days before my period most months, so... who knows.

I really doubt you're pregnant. Like MrWilly said, going off the pill can do crazy things to your body and you may have on/off bleeding for several weeks. Take a deep breath. You are probably okay.

Thanks for your words. A part of me is almost positive that I'm not, just because it would be pretty unlikely for me to be. But, there's that bit that says... what if, and all those google posts that I read last week that are driving me insane.

At least the test yesterday was negative.
I'm going to retest in about 5-6 days, since I only used one of the two tests. Then, once that one is done with, I'm going to push it out of my mind until I go to the doctor on the 7th.
