Actually ScottA, they do help for vaginal infections as well. Many doctors recommend a strict diet for those who are prone to vaginal yeast infections.
Whenever you're on antibiotics, you really need to maintain a healthy diet to avoid yeast infections. Many women (myself included) have this same problem. Cut back on yeasty foods, lower your sugar intake, eat lots of low-fat yogurt (I recommend Greek yogurt), and consider starting a probiotic. If you're particularly prone to infection, I'd make these regular habits instead of just when you're on antibiotics.

Yep! All great advice. Just make sure to check and make sure the yogurt says that it has m. acidophillus in it because there are yogurts that don't. That's the stuff that helps keep the yeast in check. You can also take it in handy pill form as well; look for it by the vitamins in the grocery store! Additionally, your menstrual cycle often restores balance your vagina by making it more acidic and crowding out the yeast.
There are also quite a few home remedies you can use if you start to get that inkling of an itch, that many women have used with much success for a long time. Very popular among those is the clove of garlic inserted into the vagina each night for a week. Plain yogurt (without sugars or anything added) can also be applied directly to the vulva or even inserted with a vaginal applicator from a tampon or a baster and this provides a LOT of relief in my personal experience. I've never done the garlic thing but I know plenty of women that swear by it.
Also remember that stress can weaken your immune system and make you more vulnerable to infections, and that an imbalanced diet or poor sleeping habits can all add the the amount of stress your body has to cope with. And of course all the traditional advice such as cotton underwear (or none!) so your vagina can breathe, not to take baths with oils or soaps added if you know you are prone to yeast infections, etc.etc.
I'm VERY prone to yeast infections so I've done ridiculous amounts of research and gotten an absurd number of doctors' opinions. This is some of the most useful stuff I've learned over the years.
