IUD+Period Question

Contributor: MamaDivine MamaDivine
I did something totally ridiculous the other day (Sorry for length-need advice though). So heres what I did. I had my period. I have been using those SUPER tiny tampons with less than desirable length of string. I took a bath and thought "Crap, Did i take out my tampon?" So here I am, digging around in there-knowing full well that I could have lost that tiny ass string up inside somewhere. Ah, I feel something! Yank! CRAP!!! NO NO NO-That wasn't my tampon string, it was my IUD STRING! So of course, theres a pinch, which was rather uncomfy and now Im freaking out because "uhoh, Do I have sex? Do I see my OB-again?" I went in to see her a few times after getting it inserted last year, because I was a total wreck after having my fourth child and wanted to make SURE it was in there securely LOL. So, now Im on day 7 or 8? Can't figure which because I don't keep that well of track of my periods-and Im still spotting. Thing is, I hadn't bled for a full day-the day that I yanked my string-So I thought I was done. Did I make an oopsie? Should I go in? What would you do? Im starting to think my OB is going to think that Im just finding ways to go in there because her and the staff are so awesome and know our family so well LMAO. Help!

i recommend using backup BC for sex and going into your OB. you cannot be too careful, as you may become pregnant if it is dislodged, and/or could injure yourself otherwise. the latter is less likely than the former.

definitely get an ultrasound and have your doc check 'r' out.

and as a word of advice, don't use tampons! they can dry out the vagina, are expensive, contain a shitload of chemicals/fertilizers/ pesticides (cotton is the #1 crop for high pesticide levels in the US) and that all is absorbed into some of your most absorbent tissues!

i highly recommend the mooncup, divacup, or lunette. they're menstrual cups made of silicone, boilable, sterilizable, and reusable for up to ten years.

you always have one handy, don't ever have to buy tampons again, never lose a string, and you can have sex with it in. you can't feel it if you put it in correctly, no worries about odd chemicals or sitting in your own gunk as with pads.

google 'mooncup' or 'diva cup' or simply 'menstrual cup.'

you can get them on ebay for about $30.

go see your doc! and good luck.

At the very least, I;d call your doc and see if she/he thinks you ought to come in for a checkout.

Go see your doc. If it's displaced you could get pregnant or it could have scraped something that might end up with infections or something equally unfortunate.

Really, go see them!

When I got mine put in 6 years ago, my Dr told me if it is dislodged and you move wrong you could rupture the wall of the uterus.

PLEASE see your OBGYN immediately. You may have dislodged the IUD, or moved it. You need to know, as you may need to use an alternative method until it can be replaced properly. Not to mention the fear of the IUD imbedding itself into the uterus. I don't think a full "uterine rupture" can be caused by an out of place IUD, it's just too small. But, perforation, imbedding into the uterine lining, Infection, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease as well as increased risk of pregnancy could all result from a dislodged IUD.

I'd use condoms or wait until you see the doctor before having sex.

Wow I didn't realize that tampons were so bad for you! Thats all I ever use lol. I can't stand anything like pads or pantyliners. Tampons for me aren't expensive. I never pay more than a buck a box for the good stuff...Im a couponer LOL

So I've decided that I'll be calling my OB tomorrow. Won't be able to go in until next week though. We're going to travel this weekend for the holiday, so I have to wait. Oh well, no sex for the hubby haha
