Morning After

Contributor: Love Bites Love Bites
Has anyone ever taken the morning after pill? I was curious about opinions- Do you think it is safe, effective, and ok or are you against it? Have you ever considered using it, or known anyone who has taken it?

I recently had a mishap with a condom, and ended up taking the pill, as I'm not ready in any way to be pregnant. So, I wondered about other peoples experiences.

Please tell me your gender and opinion (:

I recently had a mishap with ... more
About 10 years ago I had a girlfriend that had to take it on two different occasions during our relationship. It worked on both occasions, but on the first time she got pretty sick. Looking back on things it was the only and best option after we had a break down in pertection. I would highly recomend it, it saved my future.

It made me super, super tired and a little sick. The price was surprising to me, but it was simple enough to take I guess. Thank you for the reply

I haven't taken it, but I have friends and family who have. I know that when my sister took it it messed up her hormones for months. She didn't have a regular period for like, 6 months afterwards and she got all bloated for a month or two. When my best friend took it, it seemed to go a lot better for her.

I took it once, yes. I did not want to take it. Although, I did not think it would mess me up as badly as it did. It was giving me to after sexual assault and I had to take it with a combination of other medications. However, it messed with my emotions and my period was pretty painful the next two go-rounds. My appetite was all kinds of weird, too.

But, I still firmly believe that it's a wonderful option for mishaps as a condom breaking or maybe you realize the next day that you forgot a pill or whatever.

I think it's a fantastic idea and I'm happy that it is available. That being said...too many times, on too many social networking sites have I seen "he cummed in me last night, off to get the abortion pill".

I want to reach through the screen and repeatedly bang the person's head into their keyboard.

- It is not an abortion pill
- It is for EMERGENCIES, not standard birth control
- It's expensive, far more expensive than a trip to the gyno and a year's worth of (generic) birth control pills if used on a semi-monthly basis.

I don't think it should be given to or used by anyone under the age of 16 due to the ramifications of the level of hormones.

Conversely, there are some doctors who will happily tell you that taking a week's worth of your own birth control is just as effective as the morning after pill. But, before ANYONE takes that as the truth, consult your doctor first.

The newer Morning After Pill (Plan B and an other brand name) are only progesterone, so they are less likely to make one ill.

I had to take it. We had a problem, he thought he was in one orifice and he was in an other. (If my ass "tighter" than the front door, as he says, how did he not notice the difference?) I freaked out when I realized he ejaculated, with no birth control in place.

The next morning I shakily called around to make sure our local pharmacy had it, they did. It was a few years ago, so it was two pills, where now it's only one. I took the pills the way the instructions said. I didn't get sick at all and I get nauseous from everything, I felt OK. I got my period right when I was supposed to.

We have 3 kids, My Man I and I don't want more kids. My Man is in his 50s and life and money is rough enough. My health sucks, and a pregnancy would have been awful, and now seeing the economy in the toilet, I'm glad I didn't get pregnant. I don't even think I was ovulating at the time I took it, but I'm glad I did.

What the drug does is to prevent ovulation and make the uterus "hostile" to implantation. You aren't "pregnant" until a fertilized egg implants, so it is NOT an "abortion" pill. It works the same way the mini pill does, and the same way pre-menstrual breastfeeding does.

I also bought a dose for my oldest daughter when she came in to me crying, when her boyfriend's condom broke. One trip to the pharmacy, and she didn't have to worry about becoming a mother before she was ready.

Neither my daughter nor I had any lingering effects from it, and long term side effects are not common.

I'm glad we have the freedom to use this if we need to.

I took the two pill version of plan b after a condom mishap. we were both glad I took it. we were in no way ready to have a baby, let alone want a baby anytime soon. it was a great way to fix a potentially life changing situation. I would do use it again if need be. the only side effects were psychological. I couldn't wait for my period to come to be reassured it worked.

I think its a wonderful option. I have only had to get it twice. Condoms broke and i already have a child so another wasnt needed. Just not something emotionally or financially i can handle. Made me sick once, but even with dealing with messed up hormones for a few months. It was better than the pregnancy and a much more lasting end result

Wow, thanks so much for the feedback! I took it, and it made me very tired and sick. I'm spotting, and have mini-cramps. I thought I'd have gotten my period by now (it was due before this happened) but I haven't. I'm worried, and got a pregnancy test.

I took the plan B pill. There was two very small pills. I took one immediately, and the other was taken at 5am, as directed. I don't know what to expect, but medicines that mess with hormones really screw me up. When I was on birth control, I had a constant period, for nearly a year after I stopped using it. So, I'm worried what will happen with my period.
