Period taking a long time to finish up?

Contributor: evie.amor evie.amor
I started my period about 2 weeks ago. The first week was normal and petered out around the usual time, but for the past week I've noticed specks of (almost black) menstrual blood when I wipe after I pee.

I'm wondering if any of you ladies have ever had this happen? This is new to me and I don't normally ever douche, but I'm wondering if I should to get any residual menstrual blood? I'm perplexed.

Thanks!

It has happened to me a couple times, yes. I wouldn't be concerned unless it continues for a long time, and I especially wouldn't worry if it's not a large amount of blood. The human body is a funny thing, and it gets weird sometimes. I would just let it run its course

I have had this happen, in fact I have had periods last weeks going from light flow to heavy flow to old brown/black blood when wiping. If you are concerned I would go to the doctor. Mine usually ended up with a visit to my OBGYN or the ER because mine was accompanied with horrible cramps I was given a hormone pill to stop the bleeding.

Thanks, you're right. I can be a bit of a hypochondriac sometimes.

I have never had this issue personally...but if there's one thing about periods that I've learned over the years is that they can be wacky. I would say don't worry about it unless it comes with pain, or it happens over a few more cycles, then maybe it is worth mentioning to your OB/GYN.

Mine usually lasts up to 7 days, but not as long as a week. I would ask my gyno if I were you.
