I'm Having Period Problems

Contributor: wrecklesswords wrecklesswords
Have any of you ladies experienced more periods than usual in a short time? Did you go to the doctor for it, and what ended up being the problem if anything?

I seem to have started my third period in a month and a half. I'm calling a gyno to make an appointment as soon as I can.

Sometimes I spot before or after a heavy period. Meaning I've gone a day or two without menstrating between the period and the spotting, but having a period too often can be harmful, painful, and a big distraction. The worst problem I ever had was just a very heavy period. Are you on birth control?

Nope. I've been off of birth control for about eight years, too. And I'm in a lesbian relationship.

About three months ago my period finally synced up with hers, and then last month I ended up having two and now I'm having one again.

The "second" one wasn't painful at all. And so far this one isn't either. The... uhm... consistency of all of them have been very different. And the levels of flow.

You might not want to take birth control, and obviously if you identify as a lesbian, you won't need it for actually preventing pregnancy, but I've been told by many doctors that there isn't much of an alternative to fixing the regularity of your period. I made the mistake of assuming lesbians don't use birth control, and found out my lesbian friend has been on bc for years because of heavy, irregular periods. Which is also the reason I started on bc.

They can remove your baby-making parts and it will stop (obviously), but that's pretty extreme and probably not neccessary. Your gyno will know much more than I do. Hope all goes well for you. Good luck!

I'm not against that. I actually started birth control to help to alleviation severe teenage acne. It helped quite a bit. The only reason I stopped is because we couldn't afford it any longer.

Unless necessary, I'd rather not have anything removed.

It just doesn't make much sense as to why I'd have three periods in less than two months.

That's true. I've heard rumors about girls whose periods would last more than two weeks but never 3 distinctly separate periods.

Hugs to you! Period problems are not fun at all. I believe there are a variety of things that could cause a problem like the one you mention. Could be hormones that have gone wonky, cysts, fibroids, and probably plenty of other issues too.

Hope you get it sorted!

Yeah, from everything I googled it could be something as simple as your hormones shifting around in your body to a serious problem. So, since there's such a wide range of issues, I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.

I have to wait a month and a half to get into this particular doctor, but unless things get serious, I won't worry about the wait.

I've spent 114 of the past 170 days bleeding. On average I get two, maybe three days between periods. So yeah, it sucks a whole lot.

I think there is a pill to stop a period, so you could ask a doctor about that.

I feel like there has to be another solution aside from, "here's a pill," especially if it's a birth control pill, which women take for every little thing.

-nods- I agree. There's got to be something else. Once I get to see the doctor I will see what all of the options are. I can't even afford to go see the doctor, but it's better to do it now than later I suppose.

I have experienced both ends of the spectrum with period problems due to a lifetime of weight issues and ovarian cysts. I have had heavy, long periods and 2+ years of no periods at all. I am now on hormonal birth control. Everything is fine now. Definitely see your gyno.

You know, I didn't think about this before, but I have started to exercise way more than I ever used to.
