It took me about 4-5 months for spotting to stop entirely. For me, it was worth it, because now I rarely have periods.

I only spotted for the first 2-3 months and after that my periods completely stopped. I still had major PMS, but just never bled again while I had mine in. A few friends have had different experiences with them though. One spotted for about 6 months and then had an extremely light period for a day or two every month and another spotted for about the same time you have spent now, and then had one full on period and then nothing anymore. I think it just takes everyone's body different times to get adjusted. Your flow, schedule, body weight... all of you impacts something like that. If you're worried, call your OBGYN and ask to speak with them or the nurse you like the most. Couldn't hurt.

Gah, I just saw a commercial for a lawsuit against the company that makes Mirena because of the IUD poking the uterus and causing infertility.

That...would be an awesome unintended side effect for me.

I don't get spotting, except right before period. I had Mirena IUD in April 2009 - Oct 2010, and then went on pill for 2 yrs, and have had IUD again since Aug 22, 2012 til now. 1st time - no issues at all. now - i get cramping before and during period and sometimes it's heavy.

I always get my normal 3 day period though on all birth control

It stopped pretty much immediately for me -- after my initial period was over, at least. So, a week or so, I guess? I haven't had any periods or spotting whatsoever since then (it's been 2-1/2 years so far). I'm pretty grateful because my periods/PMS were unbearable. It sounds everyone has very different results.

Except that it also caused cysts and internal bleeding due to piercing the uterus.
