What does a UTI feel like?

I have never had a UTI, but I'm wondering what it feels like to have one? And how easy is it to get one?

I have had a few as an adult, but used to get them more as a kid/teenager.

I also worked in the medical field, so have seen a million UTI's at work. The symptoms will be different for everyone but include:

stomach pain, back pain, (the pain can be very minor to feeling like someone is stabbing you in the belly), painful urination, burning, itching, blood in urine, confusion, tiredness, weakness, frequent urination

For women especially, they seem to be pretty easy to get. As women get older (50-60+) the are almost epidemic.

I had my first UTI about three months ago, while I was on vacation in the UK. Not a great time for a UTI.

I woke up one night around 2am, went to the bathroom and...there was a very sharp stinging sensation. The stinging sensation quickly turned into an unbearable pain that had me in tears. Meanwhile, I still fell like my bladder was completely full, but nothing would come out. When I stood up and looked down at the toilet, there was blood.

I ended up taking a cab to a local hospital, where they prescribed me an antibiotic.

The antibiotic started to work fast, but for about a day and a half, I couldn't sleep or go outside as I felt like I was in constant pain. Not to mention that I felt like my bladder was constantly full.

As for how easy it is to get one...? I don't really know. As I said, this was my first UTI. I believe that it was caused by some rough that my significant other and I had the day before.

They suck and are really painful. Some people are more inclined to get them than others. Figured out though if you ever get one. At the first sign aka hurts to pee start eating cranberry tablets, drinking apple cider vinegar and chugging water and it clears up in a day.

I can't say if that works for getting rid of them or not, but if you do start getting symptoms of a UTI? Make sure you get to a doctor. The symptoms might go away, but that doesn't mean the infections gone.

I've had them for soooo many years. And it's just an uncomfortable burning feeling that makes you want to rip out your genitals. I actually found using a vibrator helps for temporary relief to numb the area and think about something else. And cranberry juice is instant relief, though often temporary if it's a serious one.

Burning sensation when urinating, a feeling that you cannot fully empty your bladder, frequent urge to urinate but not being able to a lot of the time. There was blood in my urine sample, but it didn't occur to me that it might have been due to having a UTI since I was on the last few days of my period.

Not fun. I've had thrush before too, hope I never get either again.

I get them a lot, I really hate it.

For me it's basically burning, and feelings like you really have to pee.

It feels like an intense cramp at times, down there. Not good. You want to go pee, but you can't, there's a hellmouth blocking the pee from exiting.

I've had different symptoms but mostly a burning sensation when you pee. Make sure you get the antibiotics you need (or maybe hillys's regiment works, I haven't tried it)! Or else it will get much worse.

I didn't know what it was at first, and after two weeks of having it I got really nauseous and dehydrated (couldn't even keep water down) and fainted at one point. I had to go to the hospital. Luckily I can recognize the symptoms early before it gets that bad again.

Really, truly awful. I felt nauseous, my heart would pound and it constantly felt like I needed to pee. Mostly the 'urgency' of the feeling and the extreme duration of the feeling was what caused the first two symptoms. But it's not just a burning sensation when you do actually pee -- it felt sharp and almost crampy, to me. I only had it for about 3 days and I had no idea what it was.

I think everyone has different feelings when they have a UTI. I've had many, and usually get them when I'm pregnant. I know when I have them without having to see the doctor to figure it out. I've never once felt pain. I often feel like I have to pee, and then can't fully empty my bladder. That's the most annoying feeling!! The first day I feel one, if I drink a TON of water and use the bathroom frequently, they usually go away, but it's much smarter to go see the doctor since they need your urine sample in order to figure out which antibiotic to prescribe. Cranberry pills/juice doesn't get rid of a UTI if you already have one, but it can help to prevent you from getting another one.

I've had a few, but thankfully they were very mild. Really the only symptom that I can recall was feeling the need to urinate very frequently, but at the same time often not having any urine to get rid of! No pain or anything like that. At least once I got antibiotics that cleared it straight up, while a few other times the UTI went away on its own.

As for how easy it is to get one, that varies depending on the individual, and various factors can affect your chances (in particular, it's always important to wear clean underwear).

same symptoms as me! I only had one, and it happened when my hubby (the boyfriend) and I had sex for the first time without a condom. There are just more germs there! Always pee after sex-I have never had one since!

I am so prone to them. I started getting them when I was a teenager and none of the doctors believed I was a virgin. I would feel bloated all the time and have a constant urge to pee. When I would go to the bathroom, it would hurt and the feeling that I had to urinate did not go away.

I take over the counter cranberry pills now on a daily basis and I don't get them anymore.

Good to know the cranberry pills work, at least for you. I have a tendancy to get them, so I'll have to start taking them.
