Do you get Yeast Infections?

Contributor: Miss Anonymous Miss Anonymous
I’m just now getting over a nasty yeast infection. I should have known it was going to happen because when I start a new birth control, or start antibiotics I end up with one. They are the most annoying thing in the face of the earth

I was curious…

how many of you suffer from them?
What do you normally to take care of them.?
If you suffer from chronic yest infections how do you keep them at a minimal?

I normally go to the doctors and take the one pill of Diflucan, but because I wouldn't be able to get into the doctor until NEXT week. I tried the OTC medicine like Monistat, it was my first time using it and it wasn't too bad.

I used to get them a lot as a kid. Don't remember how they were taken care of back then.

I had a stretch of at least seven years without one (may have been even longer), then back in mid-September I got one out of nowhere. Then another two weeks later, and I just got over a third. I have no clue where the ever-loving hell they came from, and I'm currently trying to find a gynecologist. Until I can get an appointment, I've been treating myself with Monistat. Three infections in two months is just weird.

I get a lot of yeast infections. Not sure if it's often enough to say it's chronic, but it's fairly often. I usually use either yogurt or Monistat. If that doesn't work I'll go to the doctor.

My mom said I got them often as a baby due to antibiotics I was on.

I got one again two years ago due to the same cause (antibiotics for wisdom teeth extraction.)

It's really weird how antibiotics do that!

I usually get one about once a year. Not horrible, but annoying. I have tried monistat, but it always burns and extremely uncomfortable. I like using vagisil to help with the itching, but otherwise just let it run it's course.

I use to get them alot as a teenage before my boyfriend (now husband) and I discovered lube. Now, I only get them occasional and I always use Canesten, its just works the best for me. I make sure to drink lots of water as well, helps keep them away.

I usually get them for hormonal reasons. I take vitamins and probiotics to prevent them. I usually use Monistat 1 combo pack. It works the best. Tried a generic once and it didn't work! And the external cream actually seemed to make the itching worse! It was awful. I've gotten the Diflucan pill but it just takes too damn long to relieve the symptoms so I usually combine it with a Monistat pack too just to knock it out faster, my doc recommended this the last time. I'll probably skip the Diflucan in the future. Doesn't seem worth it.

Please please please don't use anything over the counter! Just avoid sugars and eat plain yogurt.

The only times I've ever had yeast infections was when I was pregnant. I would go to the doctor and get a script.

Not for a long time. I only get them when I eat a lot of sugar. Used to use yogurt tampons and it worked well.

I got them a few times as a kid, but I just let them work themselves out, mainly because I just thought what was happening was normal. I got one about two years ago and finally realised what it was I had as a kid. I just used Monistat. It worked well, it just itched like crazy in the middle of the night that I used it. I had been wearing these new pairs of underwear that were made of nylon and I had used the KY Yours & Mine lube recently, so I believe it was either one or both of those that caused it. As a result, I refuse to wear any underwear that isn't cotton and I refuse to use that lube.

I've never had one, at least that I can remember. I'm pretty sure I had one or two when I was a kid.

Any particular reason not to use over-the-counter stuff? Not to be rude, but I'm more apt to follow advice if I know the reasoning behind it.

I only seem to get them from taking antibiotics and I usually rely on natural yoghurt to sort it out, it works so much better than expensive prescriptions have for me.

I've never had one (knock on wood), but I know people that insert cloves of garlic with a lot of success.
