Kidney stones

Contributor: ejrbrndps ejrbrndps
Has anyone ever had them? I found out 2/2011 I had one stone the size of a quarter and was too big to pass. Talk about pain and getting knocked on your ass! Had two Lythotripsy procedures done in 2011 and nothing happened. Finally 2/2012 the stone now stones left my kidney and are now stuck in my ureter. Just had a ureter stent put in 4/27/2012 and have to keep it in for 2 weeks. Then go back to surgery to have it removed and get a laser treatment to break up the stones then pass. Now I have blood in my urine and go to the bathroom every 5 to 10 minutes to pee. I think I went about 70 times yesterday! Anyway I'm in hell right now and can't wait till its over. Can't wait to find out what they are made of and change my diet!

I get them pretty regularly in my left kidney now. Luckily, so far mine have all passed on their own, but I definitely understand your pain. My stones are calcium oxalate stones, so one of the things my urologist recommended was natural (real) lemonade, made with actual lemon juice. Apparently it can change the pH of urine a bit, and help to dissolve the stones a little.

Other than that for me, there was not much to change in my diet - I already drank a lot of water, avoided caffeine and didn't eat high protein. So it looks like they're just going to be a problem for me from now on.

Be sure to get good pain meds from your doctor, and then be sure to take them! Best wishes for things to get better ASAP.

I personally never had them but I have known people who have.. So best wishes. Once you have had all the surgeries try this little drink mix do it daily. It will keep your kidneys flushed out. Use purified water( if you can afford to purchase it) If not I drink from my tap, lemon juice, I buy the really large bottle from the supermarket, Grade A maple syrup ( not Mrs butterworth) It is a bit costly, Cayanne pepper. In a drinking glass put about 1/3 cup of lemon juice, two teaspoons of maple syrup, a dash or two of cayanne pepper then fill with water. You can add more of lemon juice and maple syrup if it is not strong enough for you liking. This was given to me by a physician who said it will help clean out your kidneys. I drink a couple of glasses a day.. Best wishes..

I'm a bit late on this, but my sister had kidney stones 4 times.
I noticed that as much as we encourage her to do so, she hates vegetables and refuses to eat them, we can barely get her to take her vitamins and she stresses to a ridiculous degree.
I hope it helps, but it is my firm belief that diet is largely important (as Indigo mentioned) and vegetables are not only nutrient enriched, but processing foods. Additionally, stress does unimaginable things to the body that are wide-ranging and far reaching and so if you had not already, take a look at your stress level.

I have not had them, my sister is 8 years older than me (30) and she has suffered immensely beyond kidney stones. So I saw all the pain she suffered on multiple occasions and I wish she would take better care of herself. And I am in no way suggesting that people who have them don't take care of themselves, but certain precautions do help.
