Your attitude toward WebCam models??

Contributor: Liz2 Liz2
I am seriously considering becoming a WebCam model. I am outgoing, flirtatious, personable and a tease. I love and celebrate my sexuality but for the most part, I kinda fly under the radar. I discussed WebCamming, in general with some of my girl friends, not mentioning I was considering doing it. Only one thought that she would ever consider it....some said it was vile and evil, one said it was just giving into more sexism, and what got me is that some said that they could not be a friend to a cam model, w/o explanation.
My concern is that I am starting a career type position in early Sept and I don't want to fuck things up or be thought of as a slut. I have no intention of advertising and some sites will lock out any geographical areas that you do not want to be in. But I also know that strange things can happen.....
Overall, I do push the envelope and I would love to get guys off w/o physical contact, thus a WebCam site. Considering myfreecams.com and naked.com.

Since EF and this forum is mostly sex positive, I am looking for your thoughts. If you want you can also private message me.

I appreciate your thoughts.....

I think it's a great opportunity to make extra money if you're comfortable with it. In all honesty, I'd do it myself but my boyfriend simply isn't comfortable with the idea right now.

I also know that you can block out certain geographical areas, and when I was considering it, that was a big plus for me. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

My question is....Would it be worth possibly messing up the career that you really want?

I'd be iffy about it. Amanda just posted something on Eden Cafe a few weeks ago about how being a cam model really messed stuff up for her when her sister's boyfriend started watching her.

And with the issues TBK has had...

I'd think it over hard.

I'm with Carrie Ann on this. It's very risky and I have thought about it myself, but ultimately deemed it something I don't want to do. However, I personally don't see anything wrong with someone wanting to become a web model. I would just caution them to consider the possible downsides and to be sure they can handle things when they go wrong (like Amanda and TBK's probs).

I am totally clueless...what is a webcam model? Is it someone who models in sexy poses on webcam to be eventually recognized as a model or do you take webcam pics of yourself and have your own website?

Typically it's someone who does sexual things on camera for someone on the other end paying to watch.

One of my best friends is a "camgirl" another name for webcam model. I and my boyfriend make videos of me and sell them on a clips site.

It's a very personal decision because of the chance of people seeing you, that you may not want to. You'll also want to really research the site you go through to make sure they are reputable and protect your information.

Also, you can get a lot of creepy people on there, so you'll want to set your rules and stick to them and not be afraid of the "block" button.

I'd take a couple days and make a list (physically write it down) of the pro's and cons. Making extra money versus what if your boss sees you. Being able to express yourself versus the chance of a relative seeing you.

Also, you seem very strong in your sex positivity. And you are right, a lot of people tend to see camgirls as loose, as sluts. So you'll want to see if that's something you can handle, and if people like that are even someone you'd want in your life as that's a very strong difference of moral beliefs versus what yours appear to be.

However, you can make quite a lot of extra money doing that. Perhaps if not actually being on live cam, you could make clips instead. Just an idea.

Appreciate all your thoughts and advice. I have always been a risk taker but I don't know how far I want to push it. My b/f is not opposed to me being a cam girl, I think he kinda gets off on it knowing that I am his physically, actual body to body. He says I am usually so hot during solo play that I should be successful as guys would want to get off watching me play with my toys.
I am reviewing my employment contract for any possible loopholes that could be a problem. Of course issues are not addressed directly........

I have tampered with it on/off part-time (5 to 10 hours a week) over the last few years. My husband knows and is fully supportive of it. He doesn't make me do it, he doesn't get turned on by me doing. If I get burned out, I take a break. And right now, I'm on leave from it anyhow due to medical issues and my upcoming surgery. It's also the reason I don't show my face in my video reviews or no longer in my avatar.

Many of us are just Moms, Dads, Grandmas (you bet!) college kids, etc.. just trying to earn some money and for some, make a living, but that is hard unless you are very popular and very aggressive in finding customers. If I had to do it full-time, I wouldn't! It can be hard work, both mentally and physically. I feel I deserve every penny I make. It's not that I can't get a regular job either. I want to be here when the kids come home from school. I log in, do a few shows, and log out. Whether it be for an hour or three. But I do it when I have free time and the desire.

Could it mess up your career? Possibly, yes, but only if it surfaces or you tell your employer that is what you did. Most cam companies use other names when they pay you anyhow and I thought I could always say I did customer service work from home, which I legitimately have done too.

Should it? I don't think so, but it is something you want to keep as private as possible because, face it, people can be cruel.

Cam models are supposed to be entertainers, not hookers, escorts, etc.. but there are some who ruin it for those of us who just want to do it right. That problem exists anywhere though! You will deal with rude and demanding customers, which is why it is important to know your limits and to stick to them. On the other hand you will also get to know some nice guys too who are just trying to learn about their sexuality or a woman's sexuality. Sometimes they are the ones you expect the least! Whatever you do, never EVER lead anyone on in to believing you "love them", will meet them, etc... And yes, I block areas too.

There are good sites, there are bad ones. Some are busy, some are slow, although lately with the economy, most are slower than they were two years ago. Some sites have generally nice customers, others not so much.

Either way, research it hard and make a decision you can live with.

Thanks for the insights.......I'm working on my list of positives and negatives of being a Cam Girl. I feel I am a self sufficient woman but I don't want trouble.
I am also researching sites but difficult to get the "feel" of them unless I subscribe and pay as a customer, which I can't really afford.
At clubs, I feel not intimidated by anyone. My martial arts (black belt) and kickboxing experience certainly helps as does the presence of my b/f. But on the WebCam sites, not so sure how much shit I can take?

I have never really paid to see a girl on webcam but I don't have any negative views about people who do this. It's a means to an end and could be fun but one must be cautious either way.

Good luck, with what ever you decide.

Lets face it. We live in a world where how people see you is everything. People in this contry like sex. Even the prudish church goers and bible thumpers. We all like it, but most of the people want it out of site out mind. We have media killed presidental canidates over it and took a president to court over it. So if you are getting a really good job, the kind that is image sensitive I would be very carefull about doing this. I will say in this day and age it really should not matter about sex and sexuallity

That would be my only concern, but as someone who has made money in other adult trades, I think it's very profitable. It's really up to you!

It's actually very easy to get out of if you decide it isn't for you. You will still get paid for the time that you work, and since you're technically an independent contractor, there's not need to worry about it following you, they're very careful about that.

I'm a web cam model, and I'm also a full-time graduate student, studying music education. I love my web cam modeling. I also was a stripper back in the day, when I was younger and thinner. I'm a BBW, so there's a much more specific market for that than most strip clubs cater to. I can understand how some people who haven't done it may feel that it's degrading to women. BUT, as a woman who's done it, it's actually the opposite. It's incredibly empowering to know that you have control over every man (or woman) in that room, whether it be a physical or virtual room. It can boost your esteem like nothing else I've ever experienced. It can be very good money, and is a lot of fun! Any cam sites that you decide to try allow you to block geographic areas to prevent people you know from seeing you. The way I see it though, if they see me on there, they can't judge me, since they're there as well!

I'm a model on myfreecams and skinvideo, I've been doing it for a year now and still enjoy it. I'm about to get a career job here soon and still plan on doing it on occasion after work when my daughter is in bed. As far as making lots of money its really a touch and go kind of thing. Ive made as much as 1000 in 2 weeks and as little as 80 bucks. I know that since joining that it can boost your self esteem, and I love that. Its really up to you, I see nothing wrong with it and you can do it when ever you want and if you decide to stop doing it no one is gonna care lol

I used to be a webcam model (and if Hubby's hours don't pick up soon, Ill be in that same boat again.) I did it for 2 years. I have mixed feelings on the subject. But here are my thoughts and words of encouragement:

1.If its something you want to do and you're comfortable with your body, who you are and what you do..Then do it. NEVER let anyones opinions determine who you are or what you do in life.
2. I made roughly $800 a week when I was doing it. I did it on my own though, I didn't use a website, so I had a lot of scummy guys that I had to "moderate" myself. Which was a HUGE pain in the arse!

Go through a site, don't do it on your own. The site that I use is very good about keeping track of its clients AND its girls. I use Myfreecams. Its a really good site, very well put together and its well known, which means a lot of traffic from "regulars" and newbies everyday.

You have to fill out paperwork to claim your own taxes (as they will not do it for you). So keep track of that stuff, and remember that ANYTHING you buy for yoru cam shows (toys, lingerie, lube, etc-portions of your internet bill, website fees, etc are all tax deductible. Make sure to keep track of those, itll help you out in the long run).

Me, personally, it got old after awhile. It started to wear on my self esteem and really started to make me ashamed of what I was doing. Now that I am "out of it", I really don't want to go back. Who knows, maybe it was the idiots that I had to deal with on a daily basis.

End note: Don't NOT do it because you're afraid of what your friends think. Most of that kind of talk comes from jealousy or "afraid of the unknown". They don't understand why girls do it or maybe they are sexually frustrated and bound by their own insecurities and wish they could be as "sexually free" as the girls that do what they do. Who knows.

As for your career....You need to seriously think about what you want in life. If you have a career that you love and is going to make a good life for you, you need to consider that once its out on the web, it stays there forever. no matter what you do to "delete it".

If web camming is going to be just a "quick fix" to your financial situation, Id seriously reconsider. A career isn't something that just falls into your lap. Id kill for a career that I could support my family with and be proud of. There are a lot of things that I would love to do, but can't, because I am afraid of what they may find online from my previous actions. So now, Im limited as to what I can do, without having snoopy or nosy bosses.

Ultimately its your call. But seriously consider weighing the pros and cons before you make any quick decisions.

Another thing....I would seriously be careful of the companies that deal with paypal. Paypal specifically states in their terms of agreement and policy that you are NOT to accept money using paypal for adult services. I had mine shut down, locked out and I had over $100 in there at that point. It took me 35 days to get my money out, after bitching until I was blue in the face....and to this day they have my account on lock down. (its been four years mind you). They refuse to let me into it, and refuse to unfreeze it. Also, since my SSN is attached to that paypal account, it flags me every time I try to access another account. I can't add me to my husbands account for fear that theyw ill shut his down too. There are several other forms of payment that people use these days for these types of transactions. So be careful! NO one told me about this before....I wish they had .

Sorry, I know Im hogging the board here with all my answers and advice lol...but with myfreecams, and Im sure the others as well...you have your own "room" that they come in to chat. If you see someone getting out of hand, there are block/ban buttons. You have total control over who you let in and what they say. If you don't like them...kick em. If someone somehow overrides that and slips into your room, I would just let a moderator know and Im sure they will handle it. They make WAY too much money from you girls for them to NOT take care of you. They will do everything they can to make sure that the trouble makers are put out, Im sure.

As far as "Shit you'll take",...You will get all kinds. Theyll tell you you're fat and ugly and this and that....just because maybe you're not paying them attention or they'll say nasty things to you or something. Thing is, its just "that kind of atmosphere". You have to take the good with the bad in this industry.
