I would definitely start with a finger.
PLEASE do not start with a penis, first off it most likely won't even go in unless he's using a lot of force and then if it does go in it will hurt worse than anything you have had sexually. Trust me on this- I had had a finger up there plenty of times and even small toys but when my partner was using force and finally got in, I felt like I was literally going to be sick. I had to had to lay on the bed for a while before I could even make myself stand up.
Even after you're getting used to anal I would advise fingers/ toys as foreplay before anal sex. Go slow and use lube. Yes it will hurt at first, for me it was a lot worse than losing my virginity, but it will get better with time if you don't rush things. Now I really enjoy being fingered and although I'm not too too joyful for anal right now I plan to be in the future.

Definitely with a well lubed finger. You probably won't find too many toys the size if your finger so start with something that does the job and is free!

Well lubed finger inserted slowly and make sure it is clipped down and smooth. Most toys will be large to start and a penis will be too large for a little while. Any time with snail make sure whatever you are using is clean lubed and take it slow.

As far as I'm concerned, you finger and plenty of lube to start. Circle the hole, just get used to that and slowly slip a digit in. Get comfortable with your pinky then work up to your thumb. If you like that that than there's plenty of beginner plugs both vibrating and to look into.

Take it slow, and by slow, I don't mean a few minutes slow, I mean a few weeks slow. Just use one finger your first couple of sessions, then 2 fingers your next several. Don't move on until the previous phase no longer makes you nervous.
