I know how to make very good sex toys, actually, if I'm given the materials. Nothing wrong with making your own, like floggers, collars, restraints. That book does seem a little odd, though, but hey, some people DO use veggies and fruits as sex toys.

I loved using taper candles when I was younger (and didn't have access to cold hard cash or a sex shop - well before Eden Fantasys existed!)

I've made a number of them but my fav was wrapping a necklace with huge smooth fake pearls (hey, it was the '80s) around a chopstick! I've since amended that to smaller beads around a skinny toy so that it vibrates. Easiest way to secure it is to cut the necklace and then wrap a rubber band around the last bead on either side and use the rubber band to secure it to the toy, then slip a condom over the whole setup.
Once a friend carved a candle into a huge realistic penis as a birthday gift for me...I suppose he intended for me to burn it, but that would be a waste of his craftsmanship! If you can carve at all or know someone who does, you're only out the money of the pillar candle and the condoms (wax melts at a low temp, probably not worth risking a waxy vag or asshole) to have your perfect penis!

I made a condom dildo by stuffing the condom with fabric. I got it online. But it was too large, and not hard enough.

I once did the whole ice dildo thing (condom, paper towel roll, water!) to see if it could actually be used as a dildo. I guess I'm not into cold temperature play or something, because it was numbing and unpleasant :p

Done a few. Didn't have the tools to do a wood dildo properly, did a nice wood buttplug, but I finished it in urethane and I started to question the safety of that. I also had a couple of very unsuccessful attempts at casting toys using hardware store silicone. Short answer-don't. The silicone sets by releasing acetic acid and other compounds, and they don't seem to ever totally finish coming out. Owch! (commercial toy companies use multipart silicones that don't release anything)

I really want to try making something one day! I dabble in a lot of crafts, I've done a little with wood and mold making. I think making the perfect dildo for me could be great fun.

Alright, to date i have made 2 strapon harnesses, at least one dildo (little foggy), about 10 or so floggers, 2 paddles, about 3 butt plugs and I am currently working on finishing a sex swing (though I have put that on the back burner for now). I love making sex toys, there is just something about making them for myself or friends that just makes it a pleasure to do. I have a technical theatre background (props master/builder is my favorite job) so carving, molding and engineering strange things is what I love. The project I would love to do, but really don't know any of my friends who would want to buy one is a sex machine similar to themonkey rocker, mostly for the challenge. another one I would love to try my hand at would be molding silicone, though so far I have had a hard time finding medical grade materials to buy (if you know of any suppliers that ship to Canada let me know)

Ok I'm a little bit more ridiculous and extravagant than most and I am curious individual so I put a lot of time, energy and thought into it and in short I cut open a love doll stuffed it, put some of the best sex toy I could find in it sealed it up and had some fun. Yes, I and my wife made an amazing Ripple Dildos. We used different materials for the balls: metal, wood, and plastic. Then It covered with many layers of High Gloss Coating. We can control the color, the size and every thing. My wife was so pleased with them. Also, the cleaning is so easy by Alcohol. I wish I can show some pictures for those dildos.

I love to tinker and if I can make something better to improve the lives of the people around me I will. The materials I have learned to use in the past few years has exploded and allowed me to take on projects I would have never dreamed of before though my hobby can be a bit expensive and is usually the limiting factor.
oh ya- I guess I can add this to my list- I built a 11 foot yurt over the summer that I can use for suspension bondage.
