Do you know how to parallel park?

I know how, but I hate doing it. I try to avoid it if I can.

I can parallel park like a beast yet I suck at backing up straight. Go figure!

I can do parallel parking, but am not good at it, I need two to three attempts to make it perfect. Parallel parking wasn't included in my driver's ed.

i grew up in a big city and only parallel parked once...maybe twice but that's it, thankful I was/am good at it but sadly one never fully knows for sure till their forced to try.

I definitely need to learn! Seems like a lot of you guys learned during driving tests. Wonder why I didn't? I know the theory just fine, but I have never been put into the situation where I would actually have to try it.

I had to parallel park to pass my driver's test, and I'm pretty good at it in a small car. I haven't tried it since my husband talked me into an SUV though...

No but I've never practiced, it's probably something that I should learn how to do better.

When I was 16 or 17, I went to a Youth Summit in a neighboring city. It was held on a High School campus, and after parallel parking my GMC Sierra long-bed...a security guard approached me. I thought for sure I had parked in a prohibited area and would be asked move. But instead, he just wanted to congratulate me on successfully parallel parking. He'd observed several smaller vehicles attempt the parking job and give up and move on.

I used to be able to parallel park with a golf cart, a tractor... does that count? We needed something to keep us entertained when we were kids!

I haven't driven in over eleven years so chances are no.

Now I feel old!!!

Pretty soon all the new vehicles will be equipped with some type of 'self-park' technology, and we can sit back and let our cars parallel park themselves in a flash. I was quite impressed while watching the last Amazing Race episode, the teams were driving brand new Ford Focuses to the National Automobile Museum, and the cars self-parked themselves.

Yup, been doing it since before I could legally drive. Even though we did not live in the downtown area we still had to parallel park. That training, by my dad, was part of the "How to use mirrors" training.

Want to have some real fun? Try doing it with a trailer.

city living = it's a must during events and at college, also my job at Boeing. >_< I remember coming back from a fair and my car was penned, took me 15 mins to get my car out with out hitting the asses. Nother time at school some schmoo parked at an angle impeding the spot next to it. It was the last spot open so I made it in barely and had to breath out and squeeze out. Theirs was as shiney black car, I hoped they freaked when they came out. Then more recently I had a pos handme down from my brother, it looked like trash and some morons penned me in. =)I got out EASY because I didn't care about my paint job and my car left black spray paint smuges on theirs. They had pleanty of space before and behind, jerks.

I learned how when I was in drivers ed a long time ago, but don't have to do it because I live in a very small town and all parking spaces are normal.

I can and do, as I said before. I had a patient in the City a few days ago, on one of those narrow streets on the North Side of Chicago, which were built before the Fire and can barely let one car through, with parking on both sides.

There was ONE spot close to my patient's Redbrick. (A particularly interesting 3 story very old type of house common in Chicago.) I pulled up next to the car in front of the space and noticed that a construction worker from the gentrification squad across the street was watching me. I started to back up, until the middle of my car was exactly at the bumper of the car in front of me, I located a post for space, then turned the wheel and effortlessly slid into the itty bitty spot. I looked at the construction worker, and he smiled and gave me a barely perceptible nod. Then, I grabbed my bags and my baby scale and went in to see the baby and Mama.

Where I live you HAVE to do this. Or spend your life driving around blocks waiting for two parking spots to open up. That could take weeks...

Even though I grew up in a place where it wasn't necessary, but we still had to parallel park between cones representing cars for our tests.

I use it a lot more since I've come to the city, but my instructor actually taught a pretty good method that means I'm better than a lot of my city-bred friends.

It all depends where you primarily drive. I'm very good at parallel parking because I often park on streets where one needs to do that. However, that skill wasn't always sharp because I didn't always drive in areas where there weren't garages or driveways.

I live in a small town and we had to learn all the basics from three point turn, parking on a hill, to parallel parking. I had no trouble learning how to do it.
