Don't like silicone....

Contributor: sweetpea12 sweetpea12
I have a lot of silicone vibes and as of recently silicone is really driving me nuts. Sometimes it has an odd smell (I am really sensitive to smells), it is too soft, and something about it makes me really annoyed. I love plastic and glass toys because I can put a lot of pressure on my spots, and with silicone I can never get enough pressure. Am I being way too picky, does anyone else feel this way?

Insightful topic debates on Silicone Dildo:

Issues with silicone?
I have the Ella, but as a dildo and g-spot dildo it hasn't been any use. I've got water based lube, but it seems like the dildo kinda dries me out...

Silicone dildos - any recommendations?
Can any of you recommend some silicone dildos which are not too small and look realistic? So far I have the VixSkin Outlaw (all the other silicone...

Have you ever made your own silicone toys? Where did you get the materials?
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOO excited to start to make my very own silicone toys, and I am digging deep into the info on the.

lubes and silicone
would different manufacture's silicone react differently with the same type of water based lube?

Silicone and Plastic Bags
Does anyone store their silicone toys in plastic bags (like a Ziplock freezer bag or something like that)? Are there any potential concerns in doing.

I prefer firm things to soft things in general too. There are some silicone toys I really love, though (several are from Tantus, especially the VIP) which are firmer.

And then, for vibrators? Instead of getting something that's mostly made of silicone (like the Evolved Roulette vibes seem to be) and therefore squishy, get something that's hard plastic with a thin layer of silicone over it, like the Jopen Vanity line, or something from Lelo. Then you'll have all the firmness that you need for pressure, and still the nice soft touch of silicone.

The ones with odd smells, though, are probably not real silicone. Search the forum for info on flame testing (only use a match, and do it someplace safe!).

I know I got a set of silicone anal beads that are so underwhelming. They are so floppy and hard to insert. Other than that I am very happy with most of my silicone toys. I have never had a silicone toy smell, silicone is not supposed to smell, which makes me wonder if you are getting real silicone?

I love my silicone vibes that are a firm body covered with a silicone skin. Lelo, Je Joue and Jopen and Leaf are this type. I think the Fun Factory ones are too. There's no squish or give to my Je Joue and Lelo vibes but the luxury silicone skin has such a nice feel to it, much better than plastic in my opinion, though I still love glass. This is much better, to me, than the silicone dildos with the little bullets in them. The vibrations are stronger and better placed and it has the firmness. High quality, pure silicone shouldn't have a smell to it, as Antipova says. For a dildo, I prefer glass but for vibes i like my vibes with the silicone skin.

There's no harm in having material preferences, but I'm curious which silicone products you have that have a smell. Silicone can pick up and hold smells–is that what you mean?

Which toys are you having issues with? Are they 100% silicone?

We have not had any problems with any of our silicone toys from Tantus, Vixen, Happy Valley, and Fun Factory.

We also love our glass and stainless toys. You are so right, it's nice to be able to apply the increased pressure with the harder toys
