First REAL Toy Purchase

Contributor: Chilipepper Chilipepper
I know there's a topic about 'first toy', but there's a difference between the generic phallic-shaped massagers at the drug store/novelty shop that we get when we're younger/broke/etc and the stuff from EF.

So, here I am going to buy my first REAL toy - eight years after buying a cheap vibe from Spencer's - and I'm experiencing that 'first real adult purchase' thing. It's sort of overwhelming with the variety offered, but the way EF is set up really helps to narrow down what I might want to try. There's also the worry of buying something that turns out to be a waste of money, but the review program here makes me feel better that I'll find something reasonable. You're trailblazers, the lot of you. ^_^

So, the discussion is this - what was it like for you when you bought your first real sex toy? Did you have a lot of information, have to ask a sales clerk, or just jumped into the unknown? And what did you buy?

Well, have fun with your first!

I do not know, do BDSM things count? (I've had those since I was very, VERY young.) Because I got my first "sex toy" fairly recently (actually, my first vibrator about a year and a half ago from Eden for a contest). I always had prosthetics though, so that wasn't anything special. So let's go with a year and a half ago, my first vibrator. It was the Delight from Evolved. Since I won it, I did not have to deal with any of that, the "is this good or what," "is it going to be alright." I just said, "Hell, I won it anyway, might as well try it out." So I did, with my little girl. It was a bit too strong for my tastes, especially since it was my first one, but it worked out alright and actually got me to somewhat like vibrators.

My first purchase included a jelly toy and a Fun Factory Dinky Digger vibrator, which I am reviewing this weekend. I barely knew anything about sex toys and materials and did my research after the purchase. I threw the jelly one away and kept the vibrator. However, the vibrator was too girthy for me at the time, so... it turned out to be a great clit vibrator. It was a real sex toy, but did not have enough information to choose wisely.

Price of toys is not really an issue, as long as I know that I will not waste it. I have recently bought a few silicone toys and the price of silicone for me is... a normal toy price. My most expensive toy for the moment is the Share, which I carefully studied for size.

However, I am in the process of buying glass toys for the first time, and I feel a little stressed this time and I keep changing my mind. I was given a suggestion to get one with a handle, but I noticed that they are larger than those without a handle, and I'm afraid they are going to be too large for me. I have to take in consideration that glass does not give and smaller will be better for me. If I consider size, I really have to be warmed up to accomodate a 1,5" diameter silicone toy. So I know I can't go for something as large made in glass and imagine it's going to be that smooth a ride. I'm actually debating for the cobalt blue vs clear dichroid g-spot...

make a list:

where's it going? will it fit? can I multi-task it?

Multitask is good. If you don't like a function of the toy, it is not a complete loss. And with time you may find yourself liking more and more things about the toy, which you would never have discovered if you had thrown the toy away.

Honestly, it's been so long ago, I don't remember. I do know we bought it through a catalog.

My first toy purchase occurred after weeks of deliberation and research, as I figured it was a pretty big investment. My impatience wasn't helped much by the fact that I ordered it online, despite the very quick shipping.

I eventually settled upon the Tantus Acute, in the purple haze colour... And I have no regrets. It's my first, and it's my favourite, and I hope that it will always serve me well. (I'm fairly sure it will, too!)

I started getting plain old bullet vibes before it was even legal for me . That was back 6 or 7 years ago. In '05 and '06 I did a lot of unsuccessful exploring with sex toys. My first "real" toy was the Luxe Squirmy which I got in '08, though it feels like I've had it much longer than that.

Ohmygoodness. I went to a store downtown, because we have like ONE, and J was with me. We were looking for a good lube and he saw a vibrator and I was like "nope the last one sucked ass, no way." So he bought it Because he's cruel like that. I hated it for like, umm, ever. A year or so later I found EF, he immediately bought the Rock Chick because he was deploying and I needed something to satisfy me like he could...uh BIG FAIL. Lesson learned...my man can't buy me toys.

MY first purchase was supposed to be a vibe, BUT I got a glass toy. This is my baby, I love it, and care for it and would flip if something happened to it. I never looked back. I am meticulous about what toys I buy now, and J has been banned to only buying BDSM gear.

BTW that first vibe has been wonderfully replaced by my new Vamp

My first toy was the Penthouse G Spot Fantasy Massagerlink. It came with some amazing silicone lube, and it definitely got the job done. My husband and I were driving around on our first official Valentine's day together after getting engaged, and we decided against a movie. Then we spotted the adult store. Neither one of us had been in one yet, so we went in looking around. He spotted it, and called me over to look at it. I thought it looked awesome for a first time vibe, so we got it. The sales clerk took it out and tested it to be sure it worked, but other than that, he and iI picked it out blindly on our own. Luckily his parents were out of town, so we got to use it without any worries. I still have it to this day!

I remember my first toy. It was a free gift from the adamn and eve catalog. It was a G-spot finder but this was back when I was 17 and had no clue how to use it so it collected dust in my drawer until my mom found it and threw it away

So, here I am ... more
My first was a scary exciting purchase and afterwards I felt more embarassed by the sales clerk than anything else. I had just found EF and wanted to purchase something for myself, usually my husband purchased the toys for me since he was the one that went to "those places". I had set up a paypal account but it wasn't operational and I wanted a new toy right then rather than waiting so Sigel said he knew a place close by that sold a small selection of toys.

We went to a small, dingy little shack like structure that rents porn videos and sells erotic dancer costumes/shoes ect. They had a small selection of toys...and I mean SMALL. All of them seemed to be geared to excite men and I'm sure it was intentional. I had zillions of questions but the clerk seemed embarassed to have me in there, probably because she knew my husband. Women in this area seem to think that the wife is a monster poised to eat them if they have an intimate conversation with her husband.

Anyhow after about 30 minutes of chewing over the selection I chose the Rabbit Pearl Purple from Doc Johnson. The clerk tried to make a stab at professionalism but by then it was all over. We laughed about it on the way home. I wondered if there was another better way and found it at EF. My first experience with buying from EF was much more pleasant, at least the women here wouldn't be afraid to talk to me if they knew my husband!

If you want a smaller glass vibe that is really pretty and very slender give the Gold Fumed Scribble Swirl Wand or the Blue Bump Probe (both by Pahllix) a look. I got those when I was pregnant and very sensitive, I'm normally a size queen but I just couldn't handle my usual girthy vibes and dildos. Those two are very slender but have nice detailing on them, besides they are very pretty.
