Organic products that you won't replace...

I see a lot of things on here that look nice, specifically body products, and when I ask my girlfriend if she's ever heard of them (things like aftershave oils for females and plumping gloss) she says they are unnecessary.

On a similar note, she also likes to use coconut oil, she eats it, cooks with it, and even rubs it all over her skin as a moisturizer. She also says you can use it as a lube if we run out of the things we do already use. I find this strange about her, but do other girls/guys also think of some products as wasteful, especially when their are natural/home remedy type of alternatives?

I know someone who won't buy tooth paste. He will only use baking soda. He claims it does just as good a job and is way cheaper.

I also know someone who refuses to wash his hair with shampoo. Or anything. While I've heard of people who've had great success with that, well... he was not one of them. I refused to touch his hair...

I use watered-down vinegar to clean everything but wood floors. It disinfects, kills bad smells, and the smell of vinegar itself fades after less than an hour. Total spent on products to clean countertops, stove, bathroom - $3/year(-ish).

I use vinegar to clean the house too, and have used baking soda for toothpaste, and baking soda and vinegar for shampoo- all with great success. That being said, I'm a girly-girl and product junkie who wouldn't give up her probably unnecessary products. They just "seem" nicer... and usually smell better.

i use organic or natural bath and body products and won't use anything containing parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, etc. i make my own laundry soap. For about $30 and about 1/2 an hour of my time i can make enough to last my roommate and i well over a year, almost 2. A slice of lime, stored in the refigerator, lasts about a week and can be rubbed on the underarms in place of deodorant and it works great, with none of the nasty, cancer causing chemicals in traditional deodorants. i've given up a lot of girly products or switched to organic versions for health reasons. i clean with vinegar and baking soda. i also use Dr. Bronner's Castille Soap for most other cleaning, including dishes, hand soap and body wash. Coconut oil is amazing to cook with and for a variety of bath and body uses. It does work well as lubricant, however, i buy organic, glycerin, paraben, petrochemical free lubricant because i like it better in performance, even though it is pricier. i use witch hazel as a facial toner and it doubles as an aftershave for my legs and bikini line and works great to prevent red bumps, irritation and itch after shaving.

I don't think the shampoo thing is good at all, but we have considered making out own toothpaste because I have really sensitive gums.

Well, considering the fact that he's got fewer cavities than I do, he may be onto something.

wow that's a lot of stuff. I was just looking around at some of the beauty products they sell, thinking of getting something for my gf and I don't know if she would trust some of them. She uses apple cider vinegar on and off for a lot of things, coconut oil a lot, raw unprocessed honey, organic olive oil, and witch hazel. A lot of the things I would think stay in the kitchen she uses for body products.

lol yeah. My girlfriend heard about using hydrogen pyroxide instead of whitening products since that is the main ingredient and it really bothers her gums if she uses it too often, although she only ever used it as it was recommended to her
