Reaction To Material?

Contributor: Kaltir Kaltir
Have you ever have a bad action to any material of a toy or ingredient of a lube? I know most people here are all about safety, and have never heard of anyone having a bad reaction, so I'm just a little curious.

I've never had a bad bad reaction per say, but I've had a lube before feel 'gritty' inside and it was just irritating beyond belief, so I gave that lube to someone else to use, i couldn't use it. It was Maximus. Shame too because I like thicker lubes.

I've reacted to jelly toys and also to various lubes. It's always a pretty immediate burning sensation that is no fun at all. I'd say that almost everyone I know who uses toys has reacted badly to something at one point or another, usually lubes (if only because at this point most of us avoid lesser-material toys).

KY Liquid hurts for me. I believe the first time I got some I unintentionally got the warming kind which was really unpleasant. I then made sure to get the regular kind & still had problems with it. Oddly the jelly type never bothers me when I go to the gyno.

As far as materials, I'm the type of person who can pretty much stick a rusty nail through my hand & be fine, so no material problems thus far other than the occasional chafing due to texture + lack of lube. That's due to my not paying attention, though, not the material, really.

Oh... spermicidal condoms always give me a UTI if I'm out of the sex habit. I'll get used to 'em eventually, but I was pleased when they announced spermicidal condoms are actually a worse choice then those with just normal lube.

Overtime jelly will cause burning for me. I don't often buy jelly toys anymore. It's really rare.

Jelly toys are the one I usually have a problem with, but it's only certain jelly ones, no idea which ones. Lubes, not so often do I get a reaction with those, but there have been a couple that left me with an unpleasant burning sensation.

That sounds extremely unpleasant! I'm really sorry.

Jelly will make my insides burn, as will some ingredients in lube. Glycerin will give me yeast infections. X.x

I also think (after voting now) that it may have happened that I had a reaction cause of any, but I never thought it would be the toy for example, rather that "oh I guess I was just too harsh and enthusiastic", cause for example very harsh thrusting can make you bleed and stuff too, ache, things like that...

So am not entirely sure...

I have gotten yeast overgrowth from lube so I do know it can happen I have also had very nasty reactions to jelly, rubber and other soft material toys that included swelling, rash and even blisters.

I have not, but if I didn't know I'm sensitive to latex and to avoid it, I could see it being very possible.

Only one reaction to a lube and one to a toy. The lubricant was years ago and I cannot remember the name, but it was astro something. Not astro glide. I believe it was supposed to glow in the dark? Anyways, I used it with a partner and I ended up looking like I had... *gasp* BALLS! I'm serious! I had some extreme swelling and pain. Never had anything hurt so bad that I couldn't stand to sit, but whatever was in the lube did it. I thought I had a disease. I couldn't sit down for an entire night without pain and it looked like I was growing balls. I know that's unpretty sounding, but I'm serious. It was a terrible experience and it didn't help that my partner at the time had taken me to the pool hall IN PUBLIC and yelled at me for acting strange. Hell, I couldn't just say "Look, dude, my cooter looks like a monster and hurts like hell." Lol. It was a nightmare for sure.

Then I had a reaction to a cal exotic toy. I never react to toys or jelly or anything and this thing had my cooter on fire! It relieved after a cool bath, but I did not touch the toy again.

I've never had a reaction.

However, my son had a bad reaction to an amber necklace. Of all things.

You never know what's going to be a trigger.

I had one vibrator that caused a bad reaction about every other time I used it. It was either the first or second toy I owned and I thought that the swelling/itching was normal. I had bought it on clearance at a brick and mortar store and didn't really know enough to read the product label, if there even was one. I also didn't know enough at the time to use a condom or toy cover to prevent the irritation. I ended up throwing the toy away when I moved.

In hindsight it probably contained latex or something else I'm allergic too.

I've heard about people have bad reactions to lubes. A lot of people are sensitive to common ingredients in lubes. I know that I'm sensitive to scented products, so I shop carefully so that I don't have any reaction.

As for toys - I've never heard of anyone having a reaction, but I really only look at toys that are made of body-safe materials - glass, metal, wood, ceramic, silicone, plastic.

I've had really unpleasant reactions to warming lubes (ow) and I've gotten yeast infections and UTIs from lubes containing glycerin and/or parabens. I avoid both now.
