Safe words: what do you use?

I've been thinking a lot about BDSM lately, and I'm getting really interested in it. I was wondering what other people use as "safe words"? And techniques they use so while in character they don't accidentally go too far whilst playing.

I would say "ow" like if something hurt cause my boyfriend doesn't wana hurt me and he knows to stop then.

The standard ones tend to be red/yellow/green. Red means stop and yellow means don't be harsher. This can be crucial if you're into the more hardcore things. In addition, 2 or 3 taps if you're gagged works as well.
