silicone toy becoming slightly porous? help?

Contributor: Bebela Bebela
I have the Tantus O2 Niagara (link)
and after just a few uses it seems to have an ever so slightly sticky texture it didn't have before (and yes its definitely washed!)
I wonder if maybe the condom could have done it? I used a trojan magnum lubricated, but I believed that trojan condoms used water based lubricant so i thought it would be fine? I'm a little troubled that this I may have ruined my little investment so I may be being a bit paranoid, it is only a slight difference, can anyone help me figure out if i did something wrong or am being paranoid?

It sounds like maybe the lube was silicone based from your description. Is there any way you can find out for sure the type of lube the Magnum condom has?

I tried to find out what lube they use in that condom, but no luck

I see, so most condoms are incompatible with silicone toys, never got a warning about that from condom manufacturer or elsewhere, how depressing
T__T
thank you for ending my anxiety at least, I suppose return policy doesn't do much when you messed up your own toy in ignorance... le sigh

well you can add link to the list, it also appears durex condoms also lubricate with silicon based lube, so if we believe all the hear-say, pretty much all lubricated condoms are a disaster waiting to happen to your silicon toy

I use Trojan Magnums, and the lube on it feels like silicone lube to me. Most lubed condoms use silicone lube as far as I know.

Easiest way to tell is just rub your fingers on the condom. Then rub your fingers together. Silicone feels greasy in a way that water-based lubes do not. You could also rinse your fingers with just water. Water-based lube will wash right off, while silicone will not.

For toy use just buy the non-lubricated kind. I have done some spot testing with Silicone lubes and Silicone toy's, most of the time they return to normal after a day or so. Sorry but I have not tried it on O2.

I think there should be a general warning about this. Don't use lubricated condoms with silicone toys unless you are certain the lube is water-based.

Agreed. I tell others this on niche toy sites: stick with unlubed only.

Most lubed condoms do NOT use silicone lubricant currently. HOWEVER, the newer ones in the "elite" lines of the major companies have been making a conversion.

Magnum lubricated has been water based, but that doesn't mean they have not changed it. BUT their lubricants sometimes contains spermicide. Does anyone know if this affects toys?

I have never heard of a spermicidal lube being used on a condom without that fact being noted on the condom wrapper. The reason for this is that some guys have bad reactions to spermicide.

Not much should affect a silicone toy. In fact, you probably don't need to use a condom on it (one of the benefits of silicone). The good news is that what happens in silicone-lube reactions is the lubricant bonds to the silicone, so it doesn't melt the toy or make it porous, and you should still be able to use it. It would be nice to get some photomicrographs of what really happens so we can see if it can be cleaned adequately or whether you should use condoms to cover it, but you should still be able to use the toy.

I never thought of the lubricant of a condom affecting the toy. Anyone know what kind of lube that durex uses on their condoms?

It depends on which condom-Most are water based. Durex almost exclusively uses water based. Trojan and Lifestyles have more silicone lubricants.
