Sooo, those of us who review, how long do you wait?

Contributor: Spiking Glue Spiking Glue
Yet another vague question directed towards reviewers by me. *cough*

For the sake of conversation, and because I'm curious... how long do you, as a reviewer, wait to write a review of a toy/assignment?

I've been holding onto the CROTCH massager for about 2.5 weeks, intentionally trying to stretch the legal limit of Eden's review policy. Because the CROTCH is such a cheap toy ($7.99), I wanted to see if it'd break inside 3 weeks, or keep trucking.

I just got a "Pyrex dildo mini latty pocket rocket" in the mail, last week, and the thing blew my mind so hardcore I very nearly wrote the review that hour.

I just thought it was funny, that I was so very patient of the CROTCH, but the "Pyrex dildo mini latty pocket rocket"? I wanted to review OMG, right now! *laugh*

How long do you wait? Does the toy's rockability influence how long you wait?

Well, it depends for me. I try to write my review when I am inspired to write it. If it's the same day, I write it the same day and then sometimes, I'm really never inspired and just want to warn others. If it breaks, you can always post a follow up review to tell everyone so, I just write when I feel like it.

If I feel strongly one way or another about a toy or know exactly what I'm going to say about it, I'll start the review right away. Now when I finish it, that changes...

You can always write a follow-up review if a toy breaks.

Yeah, I know I can write a follow up, I just felt like waiting a bit.

It was fun. I used the toy daily. It was like really really really good homework.

I tend to wait until I use something at least five times. Why five? Don't ask me. It's just a good number. I tend to wait forever to do a follow up, just in case it breaks, or something goes wrong.

It depends on the toy. If I LOVE LOVE LOVE it the first time, I'll use it once more to be sure, and then write the review. If it really sucked the first time, I'll just write it. Anything inbetween gets a few tests to get a good idea of it, and then I write.

And sometimes I have to wait until I have a ready and willing partner, like with the item I have right now. As soon as someone is ready to fuck me, I'll review it, but I have to wait until then

I try to get adequate experience with the toy before I write a review. I hold off until I've tried using the toy every possible way I can think of. It usually takes me about a week before I post my review of a toy. I also have to wait a day or two based off of if my husband feels like using the toy with me or not. I almost always stay within one week, unless I order a huge order of toys, then I pace myself allowing for a handful of toys each week.

It really depends on the toy. If I love it, I want to review it write then... if I don't love it, I hold off. I want to give it time, to see if it grows on me, give it the opportunity to change my mind... if I have problems with a toy, I'll give myself a few days to see if I can correct the issues at hand. Sometimes a toy is just So bad that I'm like "I need to crank this out, write out my first experience because people buying this toy are going to go through exactly this during their first time with it".... Some of my reviews I've written MONTHS or YEARS after buying the toy others are literally written hours after using it for the very first time. I held out on my vaginal exerciser for a few weeks to see if there was any muscular differences (I think a little over 6 weeks time)... as I said, it depends on the toy and my mood, I try to gauge how far I can take the toy.

The three week time frame only applies to verified reviews. You have as much time as you want to write reviews on items you purchase on your own. Personally, for verified reviews I try to write the review within about a week, but sometimes it takes me two weeks if I cannot find the time to write it or if I still haven't been able to use the toy in every resonable way I can think of. I have several toys I purchased myself that I have not written reviews on, but eventually I will work my way through those as well.

I just bought myself a set of smartballs and a bgee, so i HOPE i am not timed for reviewing them (they won't be verified). i didn't get either from eden (gasp), but i'd love to review them FOR eden...

I get a kick out of 'researching' these toys.

I get a kick out of 'research' in general.

You can review anything on the site, even if it's not from the site.

I like ti review as soon as possible. So whenever I can use the toy once or twice, then I'm on my way to review. If it's a bad toy, I don't want to spend any more time with it than I have to! Ha!

I think after you've taken it out for a 'test drive' or two, you're qualified to write the review. I'm a writer by trade and used to deadlines, so I just sit down and write the damn thing.

Follow up reviews are VITAL, though. I used one masturbating sleeve that seemed to work great the first time (mind you, I hadn't had sex in ages) and then, down the road, broke my penis! It caused a painful nick that took days to heal.

DEFINITELY think that's worth a mention in the review!

So thank goodness for follow ups - it allows us to get our initial impressions out there, but leaves us room to inform people when our impressions change!

Usually after the 2nd or 3rd use...I get a better feel for the toy.

I've used the follow up too...find it the most useful.

I definitely don't like to review to review after just one use. Generally, when a toy is new, I am in lust after it. If I reviewed it in this state of mind, all my reviews would end in 4-5 stars. XD *laugh* 2-4 tries is a more reliable way for me to review a toy, and more is better, since the novelty has worn off and it's gotta actually perform while I'm in a more typical state of arousal.

Also! I apologize about my last post in this thread, I was a little drunk at the time and being a squeek weird. I did know you could review any toy, from anywhere, I was just oddly convinced at the time, that I'd be booted off the site for being "three days late" delivering my assigned review. :x It wasn't graceful, I know. I type very well while drunk, it's very nearly a curse. I'm mentioning it now, because I still cringe when think about that night. Hooo boy. I'd say 'nevar again', but it's already too late. *laugh*

I like to test drive the product at least 2 or 3 times before i post a review. that way you can get a good feel... of how well or how bad the item is. maybe the first time i use it i was just really excited and it didn't take long to reach climax, where the next time i may be more relaxed. I find it better to wait until i have used it several times to see the general effectiveness of the product. the follow up review is also good to let others know how the toy is holding up say after a month or two of use.

I am pretty much in tune with most every one else... once or twice is enough for me to know if I like a toy or not, and I really like to get my reviews in as soon as I can after I get each assignment. I can usually tell if I like something or not the first time I use it...

If a toy is a 0 star to a 2 star rating, as a reviewer I really owe it to customers to use it more than once before I crank out my review. I remember when I first joined the reviewing program that they asked if a toy was junk to get creative and offer constructive ideas on how the toy could be better. If it didn't work as say a g-spot vibrator what else did it do? Was it a good clitoral vibrator instead? There are times I've tried a toy once and said- yuck, never again, never again and wrote my review after that first time.. but as honest reviewers we really need to explore all angles of the toy before we can honestly tell customers that they should or shouldn't buy it.

Usually within a few days. I like to try the product a few times, a few different ways before posting a review. I write the body of my review in my notes and then let it percolate at least overnight before posting. Now that it's so easy to edit completed reviews, I can always go back and add additional content so maybe I'll be posting sooner.

I use the toy a few times and use it in a variety of ways. I also try to use it with a partner, if possible. Then I write a review. I usually write reviews within a week of getting the toy. If anything major happens--the toy suddenly breaks, it grows on me, etcetera--I put it in a follow up review.

Lube and potion reviews get written even sooner, since there are only so many ways to use a lube. =P

I think it takes me longer to write my lube reviews! They all must go through the sheet test at least twice to see if they stain.
