Suggestions for first time toy users

Contributor: Shayla Shayla
I have only used one toy in my lifetime and it was a cheap vibrator from Spencer's in the mall and it pretty much sucked. I'm thinking about getting one from EF and I'm not sure where to start. Do you have any suggestions for any toys that would good to start with? They can be for solo or used with a partner

You've come to the right place, because all of the toys on this site have tons of reviews. Look for toys made of silicone, glass, and metal -- those are the safest materials, because they can be sterilized. Avoid toys made of jelly, rubber, PVC, TPE, etc. -- those toys are porous, can harbor bacteria, cannot be sterilized, and in some cases leech dangerous chemicals, because there is no regulation of the sex toy industry in most countries.

If money isn't an issue, the Lelo Liv is one of the best starter vibes out there. It's quiet, powerful, and a nice size. Plus it's rechargeable, so you'll recover the cost by not buying batteries.

As you browse the toys, read the reviews, and remember that everyone has their own opinions. Some people will rate down a fifteen dollar toy for not having features common in hundred dollar toys, while other people will give super enthusiastic reviews to things because they just had an orgasm five minutes before writing it, but for the most part people are objective and good at sharing details. Every toy won't work for every person, but the reviews will really help narrow down your choices if you do your homework.

Good luck!

Whatever you chose earn a lot of points and contribute it to the cost so you don't feel too bad about splurging on something you might not like.

I think a clit vibe is a nice place to start. My 2 most frequently used are Mimi, and Tango (the one from wevibe).

I actually recommend getting several cheaper things so that you can get a better idea about what you like.

My recommendations are:

For fairly intense g-spot stimulation, the Ella and Cute G are both cheap and effective. A LOT of people love the Ella, and it has two ends to try.

If you want a good clitoral toy and want to spend $40, the Ako is actually cool. It's well made and has a ton of patterns. If you want something a bit cheaper, the Birthstones and Iconic Bullet are also good options.

As far as more traditional toys go, the two ones that I really like that are just under $50 are the Harmonia and the Zizo. Again, some cheaper options that might not last as long but will help you figure out what you like in a toy would be the Diamond Fairy, the Rocker 7, and the Evolved Seduction.

While it's out of stock right now, one toy that is AWESOME for both newbies and people with a lot of toys is the Eden bullet.

Let us know what you get!
