Venus Vs Dona Line

Contributor: MamaDivine MamaDivine 03/03/2012

I am about to place an order within the week. Because these lines are both under the 25% off promotion, I really want to get in on some of the deals going on. I will probably be chosing 4 products from each line but Im not really sure which one everyone likes the most. I have scanned through numerous reviews, and to be honest, they're all starting to run together LOL....Also, with so many different types of body washes/creams and etc in the dona line, Im having trouble trying to decipher which ones to get. So, a little help is needed. What do you all think?

From the sounds of Dona, it'd be better. I have some Venus products and the scent does not last.

I have also seen lot's of good Dona reviews. I am actually saving up myself to buy a couple of the Dona products before the sell ends.

Honestly, neither interest me... neither have very attractive packaging. When it comes to bath and body product, packaging counts for a lot for me.

I need to head to bed - so if this needs clarification - please post on my wall and ask me to come back in here tomorrow.

I've used both Venus and DONA. I have definitely used more DONA than Venus but I will share my experiences.

Venus products in the pineapple and the peach smell terrific and realistic. I'm not a bath person so I don't remember much about the pineapple/? bath salts that I used and I gave them to my daughter. I have the body butter and the spray in peach and both smell like you're standing next to a peach tree about to pull one off the branch. YUM.

Unfortunately - the smell fades away within minutes. Even when I use the body butter and then layer it with spritzing the spray...it still fades far too quickly.

It's like I ate the peach and it's gone.

With DONA - the products are not named for their scents but for the aphrodisiacs that they have in them. So don't think "pomegranate" aphrodisiac = "pomegranate" scent...it doesn't.

BATHS
With DONA there are several options specifically for the bath. The chromotherapy colors the water - not sure what else it does because we haven't tried it yet.

The herbal essence or whatever it's called scents the water and softens the water a bit - it's sorta like putting a tiny bit of oil in your water and then having some incense going in the background. It's more for the mind than the body.

The bath milk is designed (from my understanding) to soften your skin and the water. I don't remember what it does for bubbles - sorry.

The bath salts are to help you relax and help your muscles I think.

(BATH OR SHOWER) The bath foam can be used for a bubble bath OR as a shower gel. I don't have this product and I'm not sure yet if I want it. I need to find out if Mike has it and if he feels it is too soapy smelling.

(BATH OR SHOWER)The body wash is also a gel and it is in a pump bottle. I do have this and find it to be soapy smelling and it's not my favorite product.

(BATH OR SHOWER) Body polish - designed to mostly clean but also somewhat exfoliate your body. It is not designed to exfoliate like a scrub does.

MOISTURIZING:

Body Mist Moisturizer - my favorite. This is an OIL-based moisturizer that you spray on your body. It has the cleanest and highest notes of the fragrance and lasts a fairly decent amount of time - definitely longer than Venus.

Body Butter - This is thicker tub that you use for moisturizing. I like to use this on my elbows, heels and knees and then use the body mist moisturizer everywhere else.

Body Lotion - This comes in a pump bottle. Consider this to be like your normal moisturizing lotion for consistency. This is a lighter formula (in consistency) that you can spread all over your body. For instance, you might want to go with the body butter in the winter due to dry weather but move to the body lotion in the summer if it isn't as dry where you live.

I just used a bit of this (Mike will understand this) and the mice we're trying to get rid of in the bedroom all came running to try and see where the "food" was....good thing hubby will De-con them when I'm gone cause I can't bring myself to do it.

I'm serious - I opened the body lotion for the first time about 5 minutes ago and rubbed about a pea size amount of my hands and I can see at least six mice running around looking to see where the scent came from (they weren't out at all before).

Maybe I'll have "Sarge" mix in DONA with the De-con.

Anyway...does that help you?

What you need to decide is - do I prefer baths or showers - and if I prefer baths - do I like colored water, bubbles in the water, a milk bath to soften my skin, a salt bath to help my muscles and tension or an "herbal essence" bath where the scent makes me relax.

I am leaving on Thursday evening for my mom's place but if you can get my attention between now and then and want to see pictures of some of the consistencies of the different products (ie - what's a gel, what's a lotion, etc) - let me know - preferably via. message or on my wall and I'll try to see what I can do. I'm really busy and I can't make any promises but if you list exactly what you'd like - that would help me take some shots pretty quickly.

I will state that I find the DONA products' scents to last longer than the Venus products and I find the quality to be a bit better. However, the peach scent from VENUS is to die for...well..not really. But that is probably the one or two products I will continue to get from Venus - the body butter and the spray.

As far as DONA - I know I'm repeating myself - but here goes. The cleanest/clearest scents will come from the perfume gel (which is a rub-on like old style deodorants) and has a bit of an oily shine to it until you rub it in, the body mist lotion (which is probably my favorite in the lines), the linen spray and possibly the moisturizing lotion I just opened and used.

Any of the products which are used for "washing" are going to have the soapy scent added in due to the products they had to use to make them.

Clear as mud....right?

I forgot to add - the massage oils rock too...at least for scent - have only tested one for an actual massage.

I have not tried Venus, but have heard enough to know that they aren't worth the price and are NOT top quality. I'm a freak about my body, beauty and skincare products and have invested a serious amount of time and money in what I own and judging by the reviews and looks alone of the Venus products, they're Wal-Mart quality and I will not use or pay such a high price for that kind of quality. I don't skimp when it comes to that! However, I tried one Dona product lastnight. It's the body polish (acai) and it's very nice and I will buy it again because the actual polish is unique and the feeling of it luxurious. As for actual benefits, I have much higher quality on my vanity so I dipped out a chunk of the polish and gave the rest to my mom. It's VERY nice, for sure, but not compared to my other products.

I like Venus. The scents make sense to me. Milk smells really good. I'd love to try peach and lavender as well. The body butter and scrub worked good for for my skin. The body wash I'm assuming is pretty plain so I probably won't be ordering it. If you're picky about parabens then you should get Dona. I love the cake products too because I love sweet pastry type of scents.

I'm not really sure if I'm into these exotic fruity aphrodisiac scents from Dona. Camu-Camu smelled like playdough to me. I'm afraid the other scents might smell too sweet or too bitter... I don't know. I'm so unfamiliar with the aphrodisiacs and the products don't even have a "scent name." It's hard to pick something and I find it a little frustrating. I'm sure it's great stuff but I don't want to have to order one of everything to see what scent is good or not. I wish it was more simple like picking something from Venus line in which the scents are pretty obvious.

I think the DONA line is higher quality. My Venus body scrub smells good, but the scent doesn't linger on my skin. (That could be a pro for some and a con for others, depending on what you prefer.)

Also, the Venus body scrub has a VERY runny consistency and not enough scrubby stuff in it. It's more of a body wash than a scrub.

Which four of the dona products should I get? I really want to try the bath milk, but for comparison review purposes, I would like to get four products from each line that mirror the other. This way I can give a true comparison. Im torn!!!!! lmao

I need to get my butt into bed but I've been thinking about your questions. I'm assuming you like bath products (I'm a shower gal myself). So here is what I would get:

Bath Milk - you have to decide which one - sorry
Body Polish - if you don't have sensitive skin. This will clean mainly and do some exfoliation
Body Butter - to moisturize your body
Perfume Gel

In my description below - please remember that I'm a gal who loves fruity scents and I'm saying what I'd give in a gift basket to someone else:

Linen Spray - Mangosteen
Candle - Mangosteen
Body Butter - Pomegranate
Body Polish - Pomegranate
Perfume Gel - Pomegranate
Body Mist Lotion - Mangosteen (to give them a chance to try it with their body chemistry)

Here is how I am experiencing the various scents - you may want to switch up the choices I shared.

Mangosteen - in its clearest notes to me it is an exotic sweet melony scent - I almost picture myself walking down a jungle where fresh fruit/melons are grown and the fresh breeze is wafting by (this is in the products that do not contain soaps) - I do not pick up on the coffee that others do

Pomegranate - very sweet berry smell - VERY sweet - almost makes my mouth water. I picture myself picking berries and I'm totally surrounded by berry bushes - to the point that the smell just surrounds me

Acai - I get more of a nut/berry sense of this and I can't give you a good description - sorry

Goji Berry - we've only used one thing - the herbal bath essence and it hit us more as sandalwoods and like burning incense

Camu Camu - the most disappointing for me in several selections - not bad in others. I think I'd like this as a candle - it is a rich french vanilla mixed with coconut - although others find it is like playdough and coconut. Yuck. I think this is nice in the clear lines like body mist lotion, perfume gel, linen spray and possibly the candle and massage oil.

Blue Lotus - never tried it

For me - Pomegranate and Mangosteen give me energy and get me going. Acai makes me smile and want to relax and maybe have some sex...maybe just cuddle. Goji berry is...ok...relaxing but not like Acai is.

Again - clear as mud - right?
