What do you think about interracial dating?

I was told when I was younger that they preferred I dated my race, I have been seeing a man of another race for 6.5 months I told my parents about him not long after him and I made it known that we wanted to see each other. My parents were actually okay with it even though we are a Southern family. After 6 months he finally was able to meet my parents and they hit it off. My parents have told me even though I was brought up to not date outside of my race that as long as I was happy and he treated me right that was all that mattered.
