Lube Lube LUBE! Start with a finger( If your fingers are rough try putting a glove on), then smaller toys. I like vibrating ones because they help loosen me up. Oh, and more lube.

Make sure you're very aroused before attempting anal. I've found it helps things go better. Starting with a finger and then a small butt plug or small, smooth toy also helps... and try your best to relax. As mentioned by the previous posters, use a TON of lube - and use lube specifically designed for anal sex.
