I have seen a lot of "best sex toy for beginners" but no one really comments on the worst ones on the market.

I would say jelly (in general). My very first dildo was the Crystal Jellies Ballsy ( link ), and I didnt know then to at least use a condom to protect myself... and that it harbored some serious bacteria because it was so porous.. I got it for $10 and thought it was a bargain, because I didnt have the patience to save up for a nice $50 silicone dildo.

Needless to say I ended up with my very first Urinary Tract Infection and I was so sick, after just having a baby of all things (just a couple months after a traumatic birth experience). I had never had a UTI before then, but I can tell you I've been at risk for them ever since and have even ended up with kidney stones.

I dont know for sure that this dildo in particular caused all of my UTI problems persay, but I do know that it caused a UTI at least the first time.

I know there are some super ugly toys out there and toys that dont give any pleasure at all, but in my experience, this one was the most harmful to my health because of its porous jelly material. Never again will I go near a jelly toy of any kind. I wont even touch TPR or rubber, those are horrid materials too. Silicone and glass are all I will use.

And I think this is a great post. I would love to hear more on the topic of the worst sex toys in the market. It's always great to be informed.

My $.02, I'd say anything that is too big, not made from body safe materials or anything made by Pipedreams... Stick to the companies you've heard of and skip the cheap stuff. Additionally, avoid any toy/manufacturer that is either unwilling or unable to tell you exactly what the toy/item is made out of. Know that when they say the toy is made out of silicone, that's not good enough. What kind of silicone is it made from?

I'm not saying spend $100 on a vibe or dildo, but there's a reason why a cheap dildo is a cheap dildo.

When I started out before I joined in the community, I didn't know one material from another and me. allergic to TPR? I soon found out. I was just going by if the toy worked or not. Inq., how do you tell which kind of silicone it's made from? Stick to the medical grade?

So obviously newbies can use such information as to materials, etc. Maybe even repeat it in a review to help them.

As to which toys are bad. those that are ok material wise but still stop working or fall apart. or put the person in danger, like using just anything for anal.

Companys like a Tantus, Lelo, Njoy and others will usually tell you exactly what the toy is made of in the description of the toys as well as in other parts of the website. Tantus in particular seems to tell you every chance they get what type of silicon they use.

Just to be clear, my bias against Pipedream is mine and mine alone. I really don't care for the products and product lines they manufacture. To me, they seem cheap, and not in the good way. I don't know about lately but, Pipedream won't be specific as to what materials they use in their toys. I'm sure they have SOME good and durable toys, I just haven't taken the time or spent that cash to find them.

It's true. Even the portable sex machine I just paid $250 for from Pipedream (it had some issues so I got my full refund though, thankfully) has sex toys that attach to it that just dont feel right. Especially the caucasian dildo that comes with it. I dont know what that thing is made of but I always put a condom on it when I use it. It feels like rubber or jelly and it looks like it was deformed in the mold. Here's a link to it.

For Pipedream? Their 'colored' glass Icicles line for an example. I got the No. 4 and the 'pink glass' was nothing more than painted on color...which proceeded to chip off of the toy. I had no idea it was doing this until the second cleaning and I noticed that the paint chips were coming off into my white sink. I honestly had no idea how much of it might've come off inside of me, which I went to my doctor as soon as I could in case of any adverse effects it might have had on me. I'm wary about anything glass of theirs with a 'splash' of color. I've also heard that the heart (don't remember the number) icicles dildo also chips paint, and its entire body is painted red. I haven't heard anything bad about their tentacle dildo (no 24) because I think the pink glass is just that; pink glass. My review on it, as well as another contributor who experienced the paint chipping review (they included photos of the chipped paint).

Edit: Found the link for the red heart one I was talking about that someone reviewed: review

Oh my gosh! I'm going to read these reviews today! I've never heard of the paint chipping off of glass toys before! Although I've had experience with it from plastic toys. This is awful! (One more reason for me to keep covering my toys with condoms for each use, even though I trust the ones I own to be body safe).

Yeah, I've scraped all of the paint off of my No. 4 now, and it's just clear glass. I still use a condom over that one. I have other clear toys from the Icicles line, and I'm not too worried about those because they're just plain ol' borosilicate glass without any coloring. But that was the first and last time I ever had a glass dildo with paint on it that flaked off. All of my other glass items are from other manufacturers and they're all made from different colored glass. That emoticon is pretty accurate to how I felt when I saw the paint in the sink.

Anything from Spencer's gifts, or the cheap ones you can get at drug stores. The most convenient and accessible ones for beginners are also ones that are probably not the best for them.

Lol. That takes me back.

You used to be able to buy cheap cheap sex toys from the video store adult section in town.

Nasty cheap stuff.

There used to be this really cheap sex shop near me, it closed down because they were letting patrons try out the toys in the store. They had several disgusting mattresses in the back for this purpose, apparently.

Yuck! I hope they didnt try to sell the used toys to anyone else, in case those that tested them didnt buy them! That's gross, I'm glad they closed down.

That is horrifying. But I remember all too well the seedy sex shops when I got my first dildo (it was sil-a-gel) and never, ever again.

I remember a seedy little place with glory holes and private video booths.

The manager used to mop the floor twice a day.

I think they might have, but thats only by gossip and word of mouth. at least their competition, that is still open, is much less disgusting.

My aggravation with Amazon. Unless you know how it is they never give a clue as to size or anything. It does look odd! You might have been better off with a wand from here with a lot of attachments or a thrusting jackrabbit Sugarfina.

What is a caucasian dildo??? lol

Mine too! I've heard so many bad things about Amazon selling knock-offs ( link ) & ( link )or storing dildos together, not even in proper packaging, and then just shipping them out whether they're clean or dirty...

Luckily that didnt happen with my Pipedream sex machine, here's a link to it, I may have already included one on this forum. I'll go back and check. If I did, my apologies for the repeat.

I dont regret my purchase though. I had a jack rabbit once and hated it. Never again...not my thing. I am so glad I did get the machine, even if the toys on it arent exactly the size I want (they're a little big for me) and the material is sketchy. I got this because it was the cheapest machine I could find on the market.

A caucasian dildo is just as it sounds, caucasian skin tone. I dont say black or white, I always say african american or caucasian. Just sounds more appropriate, I think.

I haven't had any issues with Amazon yet. However, you have to be smart when buying from there. All of my Tantus items have indeed been Tantus items thus far. When I make a purchase from there I make sure that the toy is coming directly from the company/person selling them. I don't trust Amazon shipping my item due to the fact they toss whatever is labeled as something together with possible cheap knock-off items. I always check size/color/materials on any other site, and if I find it cheaper on Amazon I'll buy it there.

But, I also do not intend to make purchases on luxury items from there. If a price is too good to be true, I steer clear of it. I will buy Vixen items from there (I suppose they can be labeled as luxury) because I bought a Mr. Right packer and it was the actual product. Again though, I got it directly from the business that was selling it through Amazon, and Amazon did not touch my product or handle it in any fashion. It wasn't picked up from one of their bins and tossed into a shipping box.

Also to add: There's only a few people I buy from on Amazon (company wise) and they usually have the lowest prices, but are the real deal.

Yup, that's exactly the type of thing that I do. I make sure I know what I'm getting and that it comes from X seller/company, etc. I hardly ever buy directly from Amazon's warehouses.

Let's not be too hasty and judge Spencer's Gifts. I've picked up a few quality toys from Spencer's web site at a serious discount.

What kind of toys did you get from Spencer's? I've never bought sex toys from there before, although I have bought lingerie (and liked it).
