If you are looking for a reasonable sized vibrating anal probe and don't mind a loud toy made from TPE, then the Ripple Rider might be for you. This toy has graduated ripples that make it great and comfortable for either a novice or a expert.
Ripple Rider is a toy made by California Exotic Novelties. The Ripple Rider doubles as a anal probe and an anal vibrator. While designed for anal stimulation, the Ripple Rider can also be used for vaginal purposes, especially g-spot play. Due to the graduated ripples, this toy should work well for both the slight novice and advanced users. I personally am quite new to anal play, but had no issues inserting the probe up to the third ripple on first use. However I must note that I did rely on a lubricant to help with insertion. As I get more experienced, I plan to experiment more with the Ripple Rider. Personally, I found it more pleasurable to insert the probe and then turn the vibrations on. I stuck with the second vibration setting. While I have personally only used the Ripple Rider alone, this toy should work with couple's play.
The Ripple Rider is made out of two materials: ABS plastic - which the 'handle' and vibration button is made out of. The probe part of they toy is constructed out of TPE - a synthetic rubber-like polymer. This material rates a 6 on Eden's safety rating due to the fact that TPE is still a porous material. Due to being porous I'd stuck to, and highly recommend using a condom or toy cover on this toy - it makes cleaning and sanitation much easier. TPE is compatible with both water and silicone based lubricants. I personally only used a water-based lubricant during my play.
Upon opening the Ripple Rider, I could discern a faint odor - nothing strong just slightly plastic-y. The TPE is somewhat flexible, especially the first two ripples, and the texture is overall smooth. There was a fair amount of drag when I ran my sweaty finger over the toy, nothing that lubricant cannot fix.
Overall, the texture of the toy is ripply yet pleasant. More will be discussed in the design section.
The Ripple Rider measures 8 1/2" in length with 7" being insertable - a very generous probe. The circumference of the toy is 4 3/4" while the diameter measures 1 1/2". The design of this toy is five graduating ripples. The first ripple is about the width of an index finger and each ripple increases in diameter. This size variation makes it possible for both beginning and advanced users to wield. Like a good anal probe, the Ripple Rider has a flared base for safety. The toy is light weight, weighing in at 4.5 oz.
The Ripple Rider is not a discrete toy - it looks like what it is, a probe. However, relatively small and thin, this toy is easy to toss into a drawer on a moments notice. If you are traveling with the Ripple Rider, I'd recommend that you removed the AAA batteries; this toy has no lock function.
In order to function, the Ripple Rider requires two AAA batteries, which are not included in the packaging. I used your basic Energizer AAA and had no problems. To insert the batteries, twist open the toy at the bottom plastic handle. There will be a plastic insert to insert the batteries, then place the insert into the cavity of the toy. Screw the plastic cap back on.
To operate the toy, press the button located in the center of the plastic cap. Pressing once turns the toy on, additionally presses increases the vibration speed; there are three vibration speeds. The Ripple Rider is quite a buzzy toy and makes a good deal of noise. Even under a comforter, you can still here the buzzing.
The Ripple Rider is marketed as a waterproof toy. It works just like normal in water however make sure the plastic cap is tightly screwed on - you don't want the batteries to corrode and ruin the toy.
The Ripple Rider is easy to take care of. Due to being waterproof, you can use warm soap and water to clean the toy. The box recommends that you clean the probe before and after each use. The pros of being made out of TPE is that both silicone and water based lubricants are compatible. The con is that since the toy is still porous, to be completely sanitary I'd recommend using a condom or toy cover.
I store my Ripple Rider in a cool, dark draw away from other toys.
The Ripple Rider comes in flimsy plastic packaging, thus I would not use it for storage. I accidentally dropped a paperback book on the packaging and flat...no longer functional. The packaging is not discreet and has pictures of the toy. I appreciated that the packaging did say what type of batteries to use, listed the material the toy was made out of, and stated that the Ripple Rider is waterproof. But, overall, nothing spectacular.

Follow-up commentaryI still like it2 months after original review
Overall, I still enjoy using this toy. However, I wish it was made out of silicone or another nonporous material. Due to being porous I personally will only use this toy with a condom and that gets annoying after awhile.
