The Dr. Joel Angled Prostate Massager by California Exotics is an angled, vibrating TPR plug that can be used as an anal and prostate vibrator. The configuration of the vibrator at the base of the plug makes this much more of an anal vibrator than a prostate vibrator, but the sensations are pleasant and the vibrations do reach the base of the prostate if you have one. Insertion is easy thanks to the soft material and gradual, smooth taper, but removal is difficult because of the small, soft wings of the base.

This is best used as a stationary vibrating plug, and there are four vibration settings to choose from, all strong and stimulating.

The Angled Prostate Massager is made of a soft, smooth surfaced TPR "jacket" enclosing a hard plastic vibrator. The material is phthalate-free and had only a light odor when the package was opened, but be forewarned that the TPR material does pick up odors during use. The small size and soft, smooth surface make the Angled Prostate Massager suitable for many people, but you might want to familiarize yourself with anal play before trying this toy because of the 4-1/2" circumference.

Because of the hard plastic vibrator this toy was easy to insert, but the soft outer material allows it to give when you squeeze your anus around it, a trait which I find pleasant.

The Angled Prostate Massager is shaped somewhat like a gray candle flame with a bump at the side.The tip is angled, and the body expands gradually through two steps to a maximum size of about 1-1/2" diameter, similar to a full-sized butt plug. The neck of the massager is narrow, at about 3/4" diameter, and it stays in comfortably. The base is definitely not substantial, each "wing" sticking out only about 5/8" from the neck. During use I didn't have any problems with the toy slipping all the way in (and if I did the wire connecting the control box and the vibrator would have allowed retrieval), but the soft, small wings made removal a bit difficult.

The smoky gray plug blends in well with other things, and the controller looks like a notebook mouse (excluding the "California Exotic Novelties" badge on it), so this setup is somewhat discreet, although it is likely to be fairly obvious on an X-ray.

The performance of the Angled Prostate Massager is, sadly, mixed. There is no argument with the power of the vibrator, as it is one of the most powerful battery vibrators I have tested. Unfortunately other design decisions weigh against the toy.

The most annoying thing I found was the loose fit of the batteries in the controller. Several times during testing I had the controller either fall a small distance or get bumped, and in almost every case the batteries were dislodged causing the vibrator to stop until I removed and reinserted them. Once this was done the vibrator started working again - until it was bumped the next time.

The second problem was that the TPR jacket did not transmit vibrations well. The vibrations were very strong at the bullet, but the top of the bullet was about 1-3/4" inside the anus. This just reaches the prostate, but even though the Angled Prostate Massager has an extension that reaches above the prostate the vibrations were not carried along it very strongly. It was pleasant to use, but the sensations were definitely confined to the lower prostate.

There are four vibration settings on this toy - moderate pulsing, fast pulsing, and two consistent vibration settings that I could find little difference between. All were powerful and stimulating, while only being moderately loud. The button on the control/battery box that selects the settings is small, a benefit in that it is harder to accidentally turn the toy off, but a bit harder to control on the fly.

The Angled Prostate Massager requires a bit of care to keep in tip-top condition. The most important thing to keep in mind is that it is not waterproof - neither the control box nor the vibrating egg can be submerged in water. Because of this, and because the TPR tends to pick up odors and cannot be easily sanitized, it is best to use this toy with condoms. If you do wash it you need to be careful to hold the plug with the base down so water does not run up into the vibrator.

The plug surface is TPR, so it cannot be used with oil-based lubricants. You can use water or silicone-based lubes, and do be sure to lube the toy before use as anal play is difficult, uncomfortable, and dangerous if you are dry. When you do wash the toy you can use a toy cleaner or soap and water (carefully because of the bullet). Unfortunately there is no way to safely sanitize TPR toys, so if you plan on sharing you should use condoms.

When storing it is best to keep TPR toys separate from each other and from other materials, as they can potentially react with each other. It's also good to keep them out of hot places and direct sunlight.

The Angled Prostate Massager comes in an easily opened "clipped clamshell" type of case that does not require scissors to open. The included literature clearly identify what it is, what it is made of, and that is has four functions, but tells little else about the toy. You could use the packaging to hold the toy during storage in order to keep it away from other toys, but after a while that might become inconvenient.

This toy has the power to be a strong contender, but it would be nice if California Exotics made just a few changes to make it better. The most important would be somehow redesigning the battery compartment to hold the batteries more solidly so they don't get jarred out of the holders during use. The second change would be to a sealed vibrator so it could be cleaned more easily, and the last change would be to a plug body that conducted vibrations better and was easier to remove, ideally in silicone. If California Exotics were to make these changes it would add two stars.
