Anal pleasure - butt plug by Joyful Pleasures - review by Antipova

There's nothing quite so simple, nothing quite so classic, as a teardrop butt plug made of glass. Anal Pleasure, from Joyful Pleasure, brings together time-tested materials and design into a very pleasurable short-term butt plug.

Its 1.5" diameter and 1" neck mean it's ideal for those who are familiar with anal play, and want to rely on the rigidity of glass to expand their boundaries just a bit, and enhance their orgasms just a bit more. The base is very secure, but leads the plug to be more enjoyable for sessions of an hour or less than for extended wear. The neck, while too short for use as a vaginal plug, keeps Anal Pleasure soundly anchored anally.

The pretty pastel coloring is very appealing when on display, and when in use it provides a pretty picture frame around the clear shaft which can let you take a peek inside.

Borosilicate glass is one of my all-time favorite materials for sex toys. It is odorless, sterilizable, hypo-allergenic, non-porous, and holds temperature well. I especially love glass for anal toys because its rigidity makes it very easy to insert---Anal Pleasure will not wriggle away from you no matter where you hold it, and its taper will help to open you up.

Anal Pleasure is hand blown (in China, though the designs were drafted in the US) of clear borosilicate glass, with colorful stripings very near the surface but just a bit under the surface. This leaves a clear shaft up the center, and clear edges to refract light---but a pretty blend of colors when you look at it from far away or under running water. Anal Pleasure has pink swirls for most of the teardrop, which are eventually overlapped by lavender swirls which stop just shy of the very tip. I did notice a few miniscule air bubbles in the color swirls, so I suggest not boiling this plug. The pink and purple blend together much more nicely than the brown and blue of the similar Sexy Spades, at least in my opinion---but they're very hard to photograph!

One of the neatest features of the clear glass is that it works as a bit of a periscope when inserted. Not that you can see too terribly far (and it just looks sort of pink anyway), but it's sort of neat to be able to get a clear view through the tip.

The design of Anal Pleasure is an absolute classic. The tapered tip for easy insertion, the 'teardrop' bulge to give your muscles a cusp to get over while keeping the whole endeavor smooth, the thick neck letting you keep your muscles open for preparation for something larger, or merely for the sensation itself. Finally, the broad circular base which anchors the plug outside your body. The base is a bit too large for Anal Pleasure to make it as an all-day plug for me, but it serves its purpose well and I can't complain---it doesn't block vaginal access for double penetration, if double penetration with glass of a 1" neck diameter isn't too much for you.

The neck is an inch long, which is ideal (for me) for an anal plug, but just a little too short for Anal Pleasure to be used as a cross-class vaginal plug. Vaginally, the bulge sticks up into my pubic bone, stretching it kind of uncomfortably, and without any sensation in my g-spot to make up for it.

When I opened this up, I thought to myself "Oh! It's like a pretty version of the Sexy Spades Small!" Comparing it with the RealSize widget, and with the height and neck diameter, Anal Pleasure is actually just a smidgen larger than the Sexy Spades Small, at 3.5" high. It has a diameter at the bulge of 1.5" (the product page underestimates it) and a neck diameter of 1" (while the Sexy Spades Small advertises a diameter of 1.5" at the widest, the RealSize widget shows it to be smaller, and its neck is advertised as 1.875" but it seems to be smaller as well.) So, Anal Pleasure is like a pretty, slightly larger version of the Sexy Spades Small. Despite the "small" name, and while this could be used by a patient beginner as the next step up from fingers, I personally would suggest something a bit smaller (perhaps the Pure Plug Medium?) between fingers and this particular Anal Pleasure until you're sure you like rigid materials.

Anal Pleasure performed exactly as I expected it to. There are no surprises---this is a classic and reliable shape, in a classic and reliable material, in a moderate size.

It's a bit large for beginners, but intermediate users will enjoy the taper, the thick but short neck, and the reassuring base. It doesn't excel as a vaginal plug because the neck is too short---but that keeps it securely in place for anal use (with no uninvited sliding around). The base makes it more suitable for short-term wear than for long-term wear. For me, as an anal player with a lot of experience, but not a lot of experience above this diameter (this is just about the middle of what I'm used to), Anal Pleasure stays put during orgasm. I don't think there's anything else one can ask for from a butt plug?

Glass is laudably easy to maintain. It is compatible with any lubricant. For a simple cleaning between uses, soap and water will do just fine. To sterilize if you're switching from anal use to vaginal, or from one partner to another, a rinse in a 10% bleach solution should clear up any worries. Typically glass can be boiled, as well, but due to the tiny air bubbles in the colored swirls on Anal Pleasure, I don't think I'll be boiling mine.

Anal Pleasure arrives in the box shown in the Use section---it is nothing fancy, but it shows off Joyful Pleasure's logo, along with a few selling points of glass, in a tasteful, non-explicit way. The box has a clear panel, and inside you can see Anal Pleasure resting inside a two-part plastic nest. This is safe for shipping and should hold up over time, but it's a bit bulky for storage purposes.

I prefer to store my glass in pouches, but since Joyful Pleasure didn't include a pouch, I've been keeping Anal Pleasure in a sock.
