If you're looking for an introductory toy for anal play, the Glo slim butt plug from Doc Johnson is an excellent option. Because this toy isn't even half as rigid as most plugs, it offers the user a less intimidating insertion. For beginners, I think that's a plus. Since the Glo has a wired controller for its vibrating functions and a flared base for safety, this plug can be used for solo play or with a partner.

My issue with this toy is in the realm of material. The Glo plug is made of Sil-a-gel, PVC and according to the packaging, ABS. (I'm assuming the ABS is only the controller, as most are made from this.) It's antibacterial, semi-porous, non latex , non toxic, phthalate free and cadmium free. Sil-a-gel also has a rating of 5 on Eden's material safety rating scale, so I was hesitant and curious about what a toy made from this material had to offer.

This plug specifically, is a very squishy toy. The vibration motor is located almost at the tip of the plug and does offer some firmness to that area; It also makes for a more precise insertion. I can't imagine anyone would enjoy trying to insert something wobbly and unstable rectally, so that's a definite plus.
The toy does give off a perfume-like plastic smell and not a good one; the closest thing I can compare it to, is the smell of inflatable pool toys. I noticed this smell even after the initial first wash and even again after use and multiple cleanings. Even now, while handling this plug, I've noticed that the scent sticks to my hands somewhat. If odor is an automatic turn off, skip this one. While the smell isn't completely overpowering, it's not easy to ignore either.

Looking past the scent of this plug and at the texture of the toy, I do have to say that it's very smooth. Since this toy is also so “squishy”, it does offer a certain amount of comfort level while inserted.
Since this toy is semi-porous, I do not recommend sharing this toy. Be sure to wash thoroughly after every use. This toy is not waterproof, so don't try to take it into the bath or shower with you.

This glow-in-the-dark (how much fun is that?) plug is on the smaller scale, only measuring 4-1/2in from base to tip, with 4 insertable inches. The base measures about 2-1/2 in long by 1-3/4in wide. The base is a nice safe size, but the shaft is too slim for my liking.

The tip is pointed for an easy insertion, but the base of the shaft offers very little for staying power. The slim design causes this plug to slide out often; during use, this happened several times for me, so after that I decided that I needed to pick a position and stay firmly put. Keeping my butt and legs together helped this toy stay inserted but it took away some freedom to move around during play.

A neat feature about this toy is the wired controller. The wire is permanently attached to the anal toy itself, the other part plugs into the controller. I was able to experiment with other types of vibrations by using controllers from other toys. I don't think the manufacturer or Eden suggests doing this, but I always love trying new things.

I do enjoy that this butt plug glows in the dark. Although it really doesn't serve a practical purpose, it adds a fun and unique quality that most toys don't have. I was able to get the glowing action going after holding the toy under a light for just a few minutes.

This plug from Doc Johnson was kind of a let down for me. I'm not saying I'm a size queen by any means, but I think as someone who has experienced anal play before, I need something a little bigger to make it worth even playing. Since I'm not a beginner in the area, the small size was a little frustrating because I knew even though it was inserted, I could barely feel it. It slipped out almost every time I tried to move around, so this really limited the ability to switch positions during sex.

The vibrations were pretty decent. It offers 7 different vibration function settings that can be easily changed during use. Four of the settings are a straight buzz ranging from low to super high. The other three settings are all pulsing that also vary in strength and speed.

I think the most interesting quality about this toy is the glow in the dark properties. I've never owned a toy that had this feature, so it was a nice novelty.

This toy is pretty easy to care for. Give it a good wash with warm water and soap before use due to it's ability to call dust and other little dirt to it, and always make sure to wash with a close eye after each use as well. To save yourself some worry from spreading germs, try using a condom over this toy during use.
You can use water and silicone based lubricants with the Glo Slim butt plug, but be wary because any lube makes this toy super slick and adds to the slipping out issue.

So far, I've kept this toy in it's original packaging when I store it, because I have a tendency to ruin toys that have cords. The box it came in has a nice inner plastic shell that holds the controller, plug and cord nicely without it mingling with all my other toys and getting tangled into a mess.
