The big guy - probe discontinued by Doc Johnson - review by Mysterious Mr. L

The big guy is designed to be used for anal play. Given that the largest point on the toy is 2" in diameter I would say this is made more for intermediate to advanced users. This has been the largest plug that I have used by far, and I would generally recommend against beginners utilizing this for any enjoyment as it would just be far too big. Intermediate users will definitely appreciate the toy though as it gives them the opportunity to gently ease their way up to larger diameters. The toy, like most butt plugs, can be used for long term wear as well. It should be noted though, that the base is quite large and might prove to be uncomfortable for some during extended play sessions.

The Big Guy is a butt plug made out of 100% silicone, which is an amazing material for any toy, but especially good for anal toys due to its ability to be completely sterilized. The packaging also states that it is hypo-allergenic and phthalate free, which is always a plus. The entirety of the product boasts the same smooth texture all around with a little bit of drag. Lube is required to keep things slick during use. It does have quite a bit of give to it, allowing the toy to bend all around. There is no odor nor taste to speak of.

The Big Guy is relatively short in stature, standing at 5 1/4" tall, of which 4 1/2" is insertable. The overall design though is all about ease of insertion. From the tip, it starts out with a rounded shaft at 1 1/2" in diameter. Continuing downward about 2/3rd of the way you will encounter the 2" diameter bulge. The initial transition from 1 1/2" to 2" is rather gradual, whereas the transition from the bulge to the 1 5/8" shaft is dramatic, ensuring that the plug stays in place. The flared base shortly follows after, ensuring it won't be lost any time soon.

Your mileage will vary greatly depending on your experience, but from my own perspective this plug was great. It starts out small enough to act as a warm up and then gently allows a person to take the larger bulge at their leisure. I've become quite accustomed to toys around 1 1/2" diameter and was able to ease the top portion of the plug in with no problem. Once it came to the bulge however, it took quite a bit of lube and patience before I was able to overcome it. I've never used a toy with a diameter of 2" before and was quite surprised by both the sensation and the feeling of fullness that followed. The plug was also firmly held in place and I did not feel like it would accidentally dislodge itself. I did not have the plug in for an extended period of time but I can see how the flared base could become uncomfortable for long term wear as it is quite pronounced.

Because the toy is made from 100% silicone, cleanup and sterilization is a breeze. Soap and warm water will do the trick for quick cleanups, while boiling the toy or wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution will provide a complete sterilization. As for lubes, both oil and water will work with no problems whatsoever. Silicone lubes are prone to negatively reacting with silicone toys, so it would be wise to spot check them on the base of the toy to ensure compatibility before use (the reaction should be almost immediate). When storing the plug the main rule of thumb is to keep it away from other silicone toys. I personally keep mine in the clamshell packaging to avoid catching lint, but it is rather large. Any bag, pouch, or container will do.

As with most toys from Doc Johnson, The Big Guy was shipped in a clamshell packaging with the plug clearly visible in the middle. Behind the plug is a glossy paper insert. On the front it states the toy name and that the material used is premium silicone, while on the reverse there is some ad copy describing the toy's features along with the barcode for your particular model. There are no risqué pictures present on the insert, so it's not immediately overt in stating that it's a sex toy. The copy on the back will give it away once read, however. As previously stated, I currently use my packaging to store the toy but it is quite large and takes up a lot of space, so other alternatives are preferred.

I never thought I would have been able to tackle anything with a diameter of 2". I was pleasantly surprised when I was not only able to do just that, but enjoy it immensely during the experience. I must say that this toy has opened the possibilities for larger toys in the future.
