As for as the stem goes, I would suggest just wiping it down with a cloth. That is the safest bet. I don't see the stem getting too dirty though, so you should be alright with just a wipe down.

I store ours in the closet. Sometimes in the box, and other times just sitting on a shelf. I only worry about it dropping from a high height and the handle shattering.

The packaging is not as discreet as I would like. I enjoy storing our toys in the packaging they came in, assuming that the packaging works for storage. This one would work well for protecting your crop while not in play.

I only tested how this felt with spanking on myself. It can be as light as you would like it to be, or as hurtful and hard as you can swing. Its all in your arm as to how powerful this can be. Its all up to you.
