Bound by diamonds leash and collar set by Cal Exotics - review by Lynk

In my opinion the "Bound By Diamonds" Leash and Collar set seems to be most appropriate for beginners or those looking for a BDSM themed fashion accessory. The collar does not have a wide range of sizes, and the leash is quite short, which means you definitely cannot lead your partner around the house with this. Unless, of course, you are sticking very close together.

The design seems to focus more on fashion, with the high shine material, and sparkly gemstones that dot both the collar and leash. This may make the set less intimidating to those who are just looking for night that's out of the ordinary.

This set also seems to be geared towards a female wearer. The sizing seems to be on the small side for a typical a man, although I will include the exact measurements below. The style also seems to be more woman oriented, as well as the picture on the packaging.

The collar has two snaps, which allows for three different sizes. However, the collar only feels truly secure when both snaps are fastened.

The size of the collar with both snaps fastened is approximately: 12 inches.
I would consider this the "Medium" size.

The"Small" size (1 snap fastened) is approximately: 10.5- 11 inches.

The "Large" size (1 snap fastened) is approximately: 13- 13.5 inches.

The Leash is not adjustable, and sits at approximately 23 inches long, from the tip of the handle to the tip of the metal clasp.

The material for the Leash and Collar is 55% PVC, 10% Polyester, and 30% Dioctylphthalate.

The Ribbon, which attaches the metal ring to the collar, is made of 100% Polyester.

The ring and snaps are made of Iron, and the hook is "Alloy". The product markets itself as "nickel free".


Now, that the technicalities are out of the way, onto the actual quality and craftsmanship of the product.

As I stated before, it seems that the product is definitely geared towards beginners, or those who want to use it as a simple prop to spice things up. While you can give your partner a good tug without anything coming undone, I would worry that any real force or long term usage would tear the ribbon fastener (used to hold the ring in place on the collar) or pull it off completely.

I'm not a huge fan of PVC material, but this one has its upsides and downsides. On the upside, it does not have the strong scent that often accompanies such plastic-like materials. On the other hand it seems to stick to the skin a bit, which could make it uncomfortable in sweaty situations. The edges are also a bit harsh feeling, for lack of a better term. If the collar slides around too much it can cause irritation.

The clasp on the leash is just like that on a typical dog leash. It hooks on and swivels 360 degrees, which helps keep stop the leash from twisting up with movement.

In my opinion, the first thing to go on this set, with time, is the ribbon and the attached gemstones. Unfortunately, if the ribbon near the ring goes, the collar will be useless as anything other than a fashion accessory.

While we did not put this product through the ringer, it worked well enough in the applications it seemed to be intended for.

The fit was a bit off for both of us. It fit my wife best on the smallest setting but, as I mentioned previously, it feels a bit awkward when both snaps are not fastened. I could get away with the "Medium" sized, which made it feel a bit more secure, but there was a bit more space left than desirable.

In regards to comfort, it is considerably less comfortable than leather. But that is to be expected. If you like the feel of PVC materials you should enjoy it.

The leash was a bit short for some of the role playing we would have liked to try, but it adds an interesting element to the bedroom.

It looked pretty good on both of us, and I could definitely see it having appeal for those who like the collar look, such as those from the punk rock or goth community. I used to enjoy wearing a sexy collar out on occasion and, although I no longer consider them part of my wardrobe, I think it would work for some.

This product does not seem to need too much maintenance.

We did not get the set particularly dirty, so I have not yet attempted to wash it. However, as with all sets that contain metal, I would be careful with the snaps, ring, and clasp, to avoid causing rust.

I would suggest soap and warm to water to clean it, and thoroughly drying it when finished. Leave it out to ensure any missed moisture evaporates from the product. This usually keeps metal products shiny and rust free.

Unless, of course, the coating starts coming off. But I cannot comment on the longevity factor as of yet.
