Bound by diamonds leash and collar set by Cal Exotics - review by Sundae

The Bound by Diamonds leash and collar set is part of the Bound by Diamonds collection by Cal Exotics, which features a vibrating harness, thigh harness, g-string, pasties, wrist cuffs, ankle cuffs, hog-tie and a blindfold. Phew, what a list - you really could kit yourself head to toe with this range if you wanted to!

The collar and leash are made out of black, patent PVC decorated with rhinestones and finished with nickel-free silver hardware. The set overall looks a little cheap, especially when it comes out of the box all kinked and squashed. The rhinestones themselves don’t look all that pretty as instead of being individually attached to the collar/leash, they appear to be snipped off a piece of plastic netting with crystals on it. This leaves edges of the netting hanging off the edges of the leash, which is spiky and unpleasant. The ring on the collar is attached with a piece of silky black ribbon, which is soft on the skin, but not as strong as other materials. Past these aesthetic issues, the construction seems fairly solid and will withstand tugging and the sort of light play it was designed for.

The leash is 21.5” inches long and has a simple loop at the end to slip your hand through with rhinestones at the bottom of the loop and next to the clasp. It attaches to the ring on the collar with a simple clasp, much like you’d find on any standard leash. It is actually fairly innocent looking and if you had a pet you could probably pass it off as a cheap, very short lead at a stretch. However, be warned that the edges of both the leash and the collar are somewhat rough and unfinished, so excessive tugging on the leash will probably hurt the top’s hands, whilst excessive movement and squirming by the wearer will probably cause a bit of chafing or discomfort.

The collar is 16” long by 1.25” wide and closes with two nickel-free push studs at the back. These give you a quick release in an emergency that the wearer can access easily, which is handy for those who may be nervous about using restraints. Despite this, they hold up relatively well to tugging and pressure. The major problem with these studs is that they do not give you any flexibility when it comes to sizing. Though the box claims it is ‘adjustable’ it follows this claim up with the phrase ‘one size fits most’, which makes little sense. As is ever the problem with single size items, this collar won’t fit everyone.

I am a petite lady and it didn’t fit me at all; it would have had to be at least 1.5” to 2” smaller to fit even vaguely snugly. You really need that extra tightness if you add a leash to the mix and don’t want the collar to be rotating around your neck when you play. I think many women, even those who don’t want it to fit as tightly as a choker, will have problems with the size. For men I’d guess that it’d fit more comfortably, though the product seems to be marketed at a female audience. If in doubt, measure your neck circumference first!

Though the package doesn’t come with any particular care instructions, I’d recommend only light surface cleaning for these items. If they get dirty, a damp cloth should be able to wipe away anything on the PVC. I wouldn’t recommend submersion as I’m not sure how the inner layers of the material would hold up to that amount of water and the metal hardware may rust or flake.
