I said sit Rusty!

This is a good cheap leather leash. Sportsheets makes good quality toys, not top of the line toys; but good quality. Sure you could go out there and buy a higher quality leash for 3 or 4 times the price of this one, but is it really worth it. We are perfectly happy with this one.

Use

This is best used when attached to a collar. It can also be used as part of bondage play. It is a light restraint, that is there mainly for looks. I suppose you could use it for heavier bondage play, as I think it might hold up to it; but I am going to stick with using it for light fun in our bedroom. Anyone can use this. You can even use it by yourself. It is neither girly or manly, it will work for all types of people, beginners or advanced. You can even take this with you when you travel. As it is discreet and does not look like a bedroom kink type toy.

I would keep it away from water though. Leather does not hold up well to water, and cheaper leather holds up even worse. This is not high dollar leather you would find on a $300 leather coat, of a $200 pair of boots. Its nice, but not that nice.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

For such a basic leash, it is constructed well. It is nothing fancy, mind you; but it will last you long enough to get more then what you paid out of it. The leather is thick and finished on both sides. It measures out to a 1/8 inch thick. It is stiff, and yet flexible when worked over a few times. The hardware is a medium duty type, and should withstand a few years of play; longer when extra care is taken to make it last.

This smells like leather, not strong smelling though. You only get a light scent from it. The scent wears off after a few days of being out in the open air and it gets a chance to breath.

When you first open op the package, the leash is slightly stiff. But if you take it out and work it for 30 minutes or so, it loosens up and becomes very flexible.

The hardware looks like cheap plated steel. It is finished well, as I could not see any flaws in the finishing of the steel. The leash has two steel buttons, one at each end. One button holds on the clasp, the other holds the hand loop closed. They are permanent and can not be removed. The clasp is also permanent. The clasp swivels, making the leash more comfortable to use for the one holding the leash as well as the one wearing the collar. The clasp has a opening of a 1/4 inch. So if your hardware on your favorite collar is thicker then 1/4 inch, this will not work on it.

The leash measures out to being just over 4 feet long. The handle is 6 1/2 inches long, with the diameter when fully opened being just under 4 inches. Unless you have giant hands, this should fit your hands nicely. I did find that the handle can be rough on your hands, if the play gets a little too rough.

Performance

This works well, for what we have used it for. We are not really into BDSM, or pet play. We just like to have a little fun in the bedroom. And for attaching this to a collar, it works well. We have never been rough with this, have never pulled on the leash while it was attached to a collar; nothing rough. So I cant speak for those of you who are into the rough stuff. But from what we have experienced, this should hold up to some rough action.

Once you get past the stiffness and work out the leather, this is a very comfortable leash. It is comfortable to hold, at least for us. I could see this being a little rough on your hands if you are playing rough with it. The clasp never once slipped off of the collar hardware. Plus it was supper easy to hook up and also to remove. I do wish the clasp was able to handle slightly larger hardware, but it has worked on our collars with no problems.

I have not noticed any rusting or other problems with the chrome plated steel hardware as of yet, but I expect that I will start to see some soon. The hardware is pretty cheaply finished. I am just hoping that with the extra care I give it, that we will not have to deal with any hardware problems for at least a few years.

Care and Maintenance

Since this is made from leather, and it is not something that you will be using near your naughty bits; it should not need to be cleaned very often. And when it does start getting dirty, just give it a wipe with a damp washcloth and pat it dry with a towel. You can never clean leather as clean as one would like. But with this not going inside you, it should not be that big of a deal to most. The biggest thing is to never store your leather while it is damp. Always let it air dry before putting it away.

Storing this is pretty easy. It takes up very little room. Plus it is very discreet. It looks like your standard dog leash. You can store it just about anywhere. We keep ours in the cabinet next to the collar.

Packaging

This showed up in a simply sealed plastic bag, just big enough for the rolled up leash to sit in. And since the leash is pretty discreet, even though you can see what is inside the package; it is not something I am worried about sitting around the house.

All you get in the packaging is the leash, no instructions or paperwork of any kind.

Personal comments

On a side note, if you have a dog you can use this leash on their collar as well. There is no special markings or additions that make this a bedroom only device. It is your run of the mill leather leash.
