Introduce Yourself to Hemp

If you want an affordable way to experience hemp rope, this Hemp Rope by EdenToys is a good way to give it a try. While you're not going to get the same high-end quality that you might be used to with luxury rope providers, this rope is still entirely usable and provides the experience of hemp rope. Make sure you're expecting hemp rope when you pick this up, though: hemp rope is designed to be scratchy, rough, and feel intense.

Use

As you may have guessed, rope is generally used for bondage purposes. This rope is no different. Made from a sturdy, natural hemp-type material, the Hemp Rope offers a long, thick rope for lots of large body ties.

As this rope is slightly over 33 feet in length and has a decent thickness to it, this rope was designed for body harnesses. There will be a lot of leftover length if used for any simple wrist or ankle bondage, and the rope is too thick for any type of detailed ropework such as genital bondage or between the toes and fingers.

Hemp, as a scratchier and rougher material than many softer materials, is not designed for the feint of heart. Hemp is generally used for those who enjoy a rougher sensation during bondage or for those who enjoy the intense, very-noticeable "rope marks" that may be left after long ties.

Beginners can definitely cause damage with rope with no prior training. Avoid any dangerous ties or any ties that are too tight. Avoid any rope around the neck or fragile parts of the body. Make sure that you pick up a rope bondage book or read tutorials in order to best utilize your new rope. Rope allows for a lot of creative bondage possibilities, but it does require some knowledge to explore those options.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

This rope is designed similarly to standard hemp used for rope bondage. It uses a non-traditional braid compared to many other hemp ropes on the market, so it may use different rope marks than someone is used to. The braiding on this Hemp Rope offers a lot more flexibility in the hemp rope material. You will want to do thorough testing with the rope before using it for suspension or any high weight bearing tie.

This rope has whipped ends. These ends appear to be well tied, and the choice of whipped ends over knotted ends means that the rope is easier to use. (Knots can occasionally become frustrating to deal with during ties. Whipped ends mean that the rope stays about the same diameter throughout the length of the ends while preventing the rope from further unraveling.)

The rope is 33 feet in length with a thickness of about 8mm. This length is wildly different than the stated product length of 10 feet. You may receive a rope with a different length.

Unlike most hemp rope, this rope has a very, very distinct chemical smell. It smells like the inside of a mechanic's garage. Most hemp rope smells like farmland and cattle. The smell for this Hemp Rope is not particularly pleasant, but leaving it out in a fresh air area for a day or two will pretty much reduce the scent to zero. When you first unwrap the rope, the smell will permeate over an entire small room, but it gets a whole lot more manageable over time.

The EdenFantasys page states that this rope is 100% vegan.

Performance

The Hemp Rope is of a relatively large thickness. This makes it best suited for body ties. Where the size is manageable compared to the size of someone's chest, the size becomes cumbersome when used near the fingers or toes. Expect to use this rope, with its thickness and decent length, for full-body and body ties. You'll need a different rope if you want to do anything more detailed than wrist ties.

When it comes to knots, this rope does a fantastic job. It's not slippery and the ends aren't knotted, so the rope slides into knots and stays in them. It can get pulled pretty tight, but there's always a possibility to untie with a bit of wiggling. The knots stay in fantastically for bondage purposes, though - just make sure to keep the rope taut like you should be doing anyway.

Hemp Rope has a very distinct feel to it. Do not pick up this rope if you enjoy sensual, loving bondage. This rope will not feel like a synthetic rope. It will not be soft. It will not glide on the skin. This rope material is designed for the rougher feeling of bondage. It has rough strands that stick out from it. It has a rough feel to it. It can burn the skin if you're not careful (don't drag rope over the skin too quickly, and you'll be fine). Once on the skin, it won't feel too itchy or comfortable, but you won't feel like you're wrapped in silk.

Due to the braiding that this rope uses, do not expect very distinct rope marks. While most hemp rope provides gorgeous marks, this one does not. It will leave indentations in the skin (that go away within an hour or so), but it will not leave patterns on those marks.

Care and Maintenance

Hemp rope shouldn't require a lot of excess care. When you first receive the rope, you may want to wash the rope to reduce the period of how long you can smell the oil-like scent on the rope. Otherwise, the rope, if cared for like most standard hemp bondage ropes, will only need to be washed when it gets particularly dirty or is used near bodily fluids.

To wash, you could wash your rope in warm water and gentle soap by hand. However, most hemp ropes can be washed in the washing machine (for the lazy among us- myself included). Gently bundle up the rope and place it in a lingerie bag or old, tied up pillowcase. The rope can then be washed in the shortest and gentled cycle with cold water and a delicate soap (soaps that are suitable for lingerie are usually suitable for rope). After the washing machine is over, remove the ropes from the bags, leave bundled, and allow them to air dry. Air drying may take a couple days to fully dry.

As this rope does not include any information about manufacturing, care, or use, all of the above information is based off of standard care instructions for most high-quality hemp ropes.

Rope should be stored in gentle bundles using basic rope handling technique. Avoid leaving any tight knots in the rope to avoid ruining your rope.

Packaging

Hemp Rope comes packaged in a plain, see-through sturdy plastic bag. This bag is entirely sealed, and it will need to be destroyed in order to get the rope out of the bag.

There are no instructions or helpful bondage information included with the rope. You'll need to use books and the internet to learn how to do rope bondage ties if you're new to rope.

The rope comes very tightly coiled as shown on the product pictures. These initial coil marks will twist the rope pretty thoroughly. It's recommended to uncoil the rope and allow it to lay out in a pile for a couple hours to remove the rope's initial twists before using it for bondage the first time. The rope is still usable straight out of the initial packaging, but the twists in the rope may make it harder to work with.

Personal comments

Having used many types of suspension hemp rope, this Hemp Rope version by EdenToys offers a few differences:
-the scent. This has much more of a manufacturer, oil-like scent than standard hemp rope. This isn't a palatable scent, and most people will want to let this air out or clean it before use.
-the braiding. Hemp rope is usually designed to avoid any sort of tightening or loosening in the fabric itself during use. They use a special type of braiding, partnered with the material of hemp itself, to achieve that. This EdenToy's version is missing that braiding. It means that it will loosen and tighten under loads. This most-likely makes this rope unsuitable for suspension - which is usually a prime benefit to hemp ropes.

However, the EdenToy's Hemp Rope doesn't come with the same $30+ dollar price tag that most suspension hemp ropes do. This makes it a lower-quality, but still good, way to try out hemp rope and see if it will be up your alley. Hemp has a very distinct, non-sensual feel to it. Some people love and swear by it, and other people are put off by the roughness. It's definitely a personal taste, and this rope offers a way to give it a try without feeling like you've spent a ton of money.
