Silky and Soft

Overall, it's a decently made, soft mask that can be used for both fun and function. It is comfortable enough to wear for sleep and sexy enough to use in partner play. If you're concerned with fully blocking light, this may not be the mask for you. For an introduction into blindfolds or an innocent gift that may suggest you'd like more, however, this works nicely

Use

The Sex and Mischief blindfold is a great introduction to the gentler world of BDSM (well, just the blindfolds really). The mask itself is soft and the straps are plenty stretchy for those with a wider head (Read: my husband). Although it has some light leakage issues, touched on later, it is a fun addition to partner play. It is easy to store and we haven’t had any staining issues, not that there has been much to stain it as of yet. It is lightly padded, which keeps it comfortable to wear for a decent period of time, even if you choose to wear it for sleep rather than fun. The padding isn’t so heavy that it will keep all light for entering, however. The sewing, while not fancy or even neat in some areas, does seem secure and the blindfold should last a decent period of time before needing replacing. If you are looking for something a little darker or heavier, I urge you to look elsewhere. This mask is light, silky, and amusing, not an item made for sensory deprivation. If you’re just experimenting with the world of blindfolds or are looking for a neat - if not more innocent - gift, give the Sex and Mischief blindfold a whirl.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The Sex and Mischief blindfold is not perfect, but it is also not that expensive. It is lightly padded and comfortable enough for long-time wear. It is entirely possible to wear it as a night mask, should you choose, without any discomfort. The sewing, while thorough, is sloppy in some areas. The rounded edges pucker a bit and the left side where the bands attach have an odd twist that is not as tactfully sewn as it could have been. It’s not really the highest quality, but it’s really not bad for the price.

Sketchy sewing

The material of the actual blindfold part is silky and a very shiny silver under light. The dual straps are stretchy and extend to well over a foot and a half. If you’ve got wider head you shouldn’t need to worry about the mask being too tight, but thanks to the nice elastic, the straps aren’t too loose when just normally extended (about 8 inches on their own). Out of the packaging, the mask had a bit of a plastic smell. This could be a holdover from the plastic bag it was wrapped in, though that part didn’t actually smell. It’s not terrible and I expect it to wear off after a while.

Performance

It’s a blindfold! The purpose it serves is a pretty simple one and it does an okay job at it. It’s not fantastic, but I didn’t expect pitch black blindness anyhow. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was and it fit both of us well despite his wide head (I laugh at him for his big head…yes I’m a bad person). The material is soft and doesn’t chafe the delicate skin around your eyes. If for some reason you’re looking for sandpaper on your face, I’d look elsewhere, as this is nice and gentle. It is light enough to wear to bed if you like the extra eye coverage and doesn’t put undue pressure on your face. This, unfortunately, is one of its weaknesses as well. When using it for partner play, it is pretty easy to see down and out where it rests on your nose. This creates pockets of light that infiltrate the darkness the blindfold is supposed to create, as well as allowing not-so-sneaky partners to peek at what’s going on outside. This isn’t terrible, but it does mar the purpose of the product a bit. At some point I guessed this would be more for looks than function and I wasn’t wrong. It’s comfortable and looks fairly sexy with its silken padded eye covering, but it doesn’t do a whole lot for those looking for the absolute blindfold experience.

Care and Maintenance

The product is made of (as listed on manufacturer packaging): Polyester fabric, polyurethane foam, and elastic. I wouldn't go sticking this in your washing machine (due to the foam), but a light spot treatment wouldn't hurt if you stain it. Thankfully, as a blindfold, this isn't in too many positions to get stains on, but who am I to judge what you use it for. The polyester fabric is silky and the mild amounts of sweat we've subjected it to haven’t really posed a problem. Just for curiosity's sake I dropped some water-based lubricant (Sliquid H20) on it. I left a drop sit for a while, another I rubbed in. The fabric darkened initially, as it would with water, and then dried. Neither spot left any mark, residue, or discoloration. I'm not sure if this is a reflection of the fabric, the lube, or both. Either way you should be safe if this comes in contact with a water-based lubricant. I was storing this in the flimsy plastic bag and black envelope it came packaged in, but this seems to infuse a plastic smell on the blindfold. I have since removed it from all the original packaging and just keep it resting in a clean, dry drawer for future use.

Packaging

The blindfold comes packaged in the manufacturer's black envelope. The company product line, Sex and Mischief, is boldly printed on the top with a blonde woman wearing the mask is posed sensually below. The bottom part says very clearly "Grey Satin Blindfold" just in case you weren't sure what you were getting into. The envelope is glued closed which makes it difficult to reuse for storage. The back has the company's website, a QR code for more products, and a sexily written blurb on the product and what it might do for you. Also on the back, you can see that the Sex and Mischief line is produced by Sportsheets.

Packaging

Inside, the blindfold is tucked away in a thin plastic bag sealed with a glue line. It could be reused if you want, but it is not very sturdy. Overall, I would not call the packaging discreet, but it’s not tasteless. The black and white theme fits the product colors wonderfully and the lady on the front is far prettier than she is smutty.

Experience

This was fun, but not as secure as we'd like it. It sits nicely on the head, but then again we don't do a lot of moving when one of us has our vision obscured. The light coming up through the bottom, however, is a little distracting. When I have my husband blindfolded I like to know that he can't see me, otherwise I get super shy and pretty much stop doing what I'm doing. If you're at all like me, this blindfold will not give you the security that you'd want. He doesn't mind it because it's comfortable, but he did say he prefers our simple cloth band we usually use as it blocks his vision better. It's light, airy, and kind of cute. The double elastic bands create a comfortable fit on the top or bottom of your head, as well as making it easy to avoid your ears. We'll most likely use it again since it's fun and comfy, but not when we're looking for more serious darkness.

Thanks for the great review & the pictures! I need it for sleep, so the light getting through is a problem. The pix showed me it's the same as what I already have from the drug store, but I have black. So, no point in getting this, thanks for saving me money!
