I'd Rather Diamonds

This teaser may be cute and girlie but where it shines in design, it lacks in function. The incredibly weak bullet and porous sleeve are not even redeemed by earth-shaking, titillating buzzes. If you're looking for a fluttering good time, you won't find it here. The abrupt whip of the antenna jabs and pokes rather than teases as intended.

Use

This dainty little vibrator, made by California Exotic Novelties, has a butterfly shaped sleeve designed to tickle, tease and tantalize your most sensitive bits. This teaser certainly won't do anything other than that - tease.

Let it glide across any and all external erogenous zones. The nipples, the clitoris, the testicles, these are just a few of the hotspots just waiting for a little butterfly kiss. The small size and lack of flared base make this strictly an external toy. Neither the bullet or butterfly should be inserted anally and would not do much by way of vaginal satisfaction either. There are many other more suitable options for those means.

The compact size and waterproof feature allows its use anywhere, whether on the go, underwater or on dry land. Similarly, anyone can use this, from beginners to advanced toy users alike. The non-threatening design is great for introducing toys in the bedroom between couples. It can be brought out at a moments notice to help heat things up in a snatch.

Anyone, man or woman, couple or single, will be able to use this fun and cute teaser. The design is absolutely on the feminine side but surely won't intimidate the beginner toy user. Advanced users may simply appreciate the teasing qualities and the cute design.

Material / Texture

There is a bit of a discrepancy for the material of the butterfly sleeve. "High Grade Silicone" is stated on the box, whereas the CalEx website claims it is TPR. Eden has listed it as being TPR Silicone. The latter ranks at a 6 on Eden's clever safety scale. This is not the best material as it is porous and can harbour bacteria in the long run. On the bright side, TRP silicone is latex and phthalate free.

Conversely, the bullet is made of ABS plastic and painted silver. This material is non-porous and also latex and phthalate free. Plastic is a safer material, as rated an 8 on Eden's scale.

The bullet is completely smooth with no drag whatsoever. Alternatively, the TPR sleeve has some texture and drag. It will need some water-based lube in order to glide more easily across the skin. The texture adds to the cuteness of the vibrator. The head has some big buggy eyes. The backs of the wings are covered in designs and the body has three segment-like grooves on it. The texture is some that can not really be felt at all during use. The forked antenna surely add to the stimulation and teasing effect. The front of the face is entirely textureless.

The bullet has no smell. However the sleeve, in my opinion, smells of artificial strawberries. The scent is extremely artificial and rubbery. Fortunately, the scent is faint and won't offend even the most sensitive noses, but it does not fade without a fair fight. After several thorough washes, the smell remains.

Design / Shape / Size

The sleeve is available in one color. This is a semi-transluscent bright pink color. It is much more vivid pink than is pictured on the product page. The silver bullet can be seen through the sleeve and hangs out from the end of the sleeve a bit. One thing to note is that the silver paint tends to chip or rather rub off in time leaving behind gaudy black scratches and scuffs.

The black plastic battery cap has a grooved twist dial at the base which aids in turning the bullet on and off with wet, lubed up fingers. There is also an o-ring making it waterproof.

A paper inside the battery compartment indicates the direction in which to insert the batteries. This paper also reduces noise and should be left in.

The cap must be twisted off in order to insert the batteries. The bullet runs on 4 watch batteries which are included. Conveniently, a full second set of batteries is also provided.

With the bullet inserted in the sleeve, the length is a whopping 4 1/4" total. The sleeve itself is 3 1/2" from end to tip of the antenna.
Further measurements are illustrated below.

The small size make it easy to hide and store. Its portability may be limited by the inconvenience of hauling batteries along for travel but that may not be such a burden after all.

The shape works well enough for its intended purpose but can be a bit unwieldy at times. It can feel a bit awkward to hold onto as there is no designated finger loop and the wings can interfere with use.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The bullet is turned on by twisting the grooved portion of the black cap clockwise. The direction to turn is in fact indicated on the base of the cap. Simply twist back counterclockwise to turn off. Since this can be done at a moments notice, discretion is maintained should someone pop in during a teasing session.

One difficulty encountered was while removing the bullet from the sleeve. Unless a bit of lube is placed on the bullet before insertion, removal is nearly impossible. This was a simple fix to the dilemma. However, the bullet can then turn freely in the sleeve which lead to a new predicament. In order to twist the on/off turn dial, the base of the bullet must be gripped. With lubed fingers and a short space to grasp this is no easy feat.

Once turned on, the bullet would not be heard through a closed door but might be through the covers. It is slightly louder than would be expected from a toy its size and strength.

This is where I would normally compare vibration strength against the rightly famous Mimi but there really is not comparison. The bullet is so buzzy and one of the weakest in my toy box. Fortunately the vibrations are greatly concentrated in the very tip of the bullet, so they are more easily transferred through to the antenna piece on the sleeve. This delivers sufficient vibrations to the antenna to do just what it's prescribed - tease.

Having a twist dial control, I had assumed the vibrations would vary in intensity. This does not seem to be the case as it appears to only have one setting. Towards the end, it gets slightly harder to twist. This may be where a high setting is but they feel much to similar to accurately distinguish between multiple settings. I would say this is a one speed bullet, but I may be wrong.

Although the bullet is smaller than other standard bullets, the sleeve can be stretched to fit other bullets. This also allows stronger bullets to be swapped in for more whip to the antenna than that which the lame included bullet can account for.

To better demonstrate this, the following images show the intensity of the antenna with two other bullets as compared to the included bullet. The bullets were all turned to their highest speeds. The first is with the silver bullet that comes with the butterfly.

Next, the Mood powerful was replaced in the sleeve.

Finally, the Iconic bullet was placed in the butterfly sleeve.

The pictures speak for themselves. The differences are great.

While all three bullets mentioned above are waterproof and function perfectly in the shower and equally so when submerged, always ensure the cap is secured tightly. Also when swapping in different bullets be sure to check waterproofing before using them in water.

Care and Maintenance

The butterfly teaser is very low maintenance. The sleeve and waterproof bullet should be washed before and after each use.

Both the bullet and sleeve can be washed with warm water and mild antibacterial soap. It can also be wiped with a toy cleaner or wipes. Sharing between partners is not recommended as neither the bullet or sleeve can be sanitized. If sharing, ensure the toy is covered with a toy cover or condom before doing so.

Although the plastic bullet is compatible with all types of lubricants, the butterfly sleeve might not be. Assuming Eden is right in their classification, a silicone lubricant could degrade the silicone material in the sleeve. A water based lube will surely be compatible and safe to use with it. TPR, on the other hand, is compatible with both water and silicone based lubes. To err on the side of caution, spot test any silicone based lubricant before using it all over the sleeve.

For storing, the bullet and sleeve can be put back in the original packaging or tossed in a drawer. I keep mine in a plastic bag to keep all the pieces together. The batteries should be removed for storing to prevent draining them. Be wary when storing it alongside other toys, it might be wise to keep the butterfly sleeve away from other silicones.

Remove the batteries from the bullet before washing and when storing. Also, secure the battery cap tightly before washing to ensure waterproof capabilities.

Packaging

The teaser is packaged in a flimsy cardboard box. It is not discreet, nor is it luxurious, though it does work well enough for storage purposes. There is a picture of the toy and a woman in a bra on the front. The product name is also written on all four sides of the box. The back has another image of the toy and this time the woman in her bra and underwear. There is a small bit of information about the toy housed inside on the back of the box. This includes what it is used for, the fact that it is scented, a claim for 25% more power, that it is waterproof and other such features. The bottom of the box has some manufacturer information and a few basics tips for using and caring for the toy. No other instructions or information are included.

Inside, the teaser sleeve is sealed in a clear plastic bag. The batteries and bullet are sealed in another separate bag. The batteries are further sealed in separate compartments of a cardboard pack so they can be popped out separately as needed. Interestingly, the sleeve was made in Taiwan as stated on the bag, whereas the bullet was made in China. On the other hand, the outer box was made in the USA.

As far as storage goes, the box can be used to keep all the components together. However, the sleeve and bullet are very low maintenance and can simply be tossed in a drawer or kept in a zipper-seal baggie. The box is larger than it needs to be and would not make for great gifting either.

Experience

Admittedly, I am not a fan of teasers. So I was not all that excited about this one when it was assigned to me. For the purposes of this review and in hopes of having my mind changed about teasers, I decided to give it the old college try.

I was immensely disappointed. Between the weak bullet with chipping paint, faint vibrations that were further muffled by the sleeve and awkwardly designed butterfly sleeve I have to say I had to try very hard not to be biased before taking it to the sheets.

Once there, my reservations were only confirmed and heightened by new chagrin. The antenna, which are essentially the only quality the teaser could have had, are pointy and feel rough against the skin. This was the case no matter the strength of vibration of type of bullet used. The antenna, though not entirely awful, do feel as though the stab and poke my naughty bits. The wings also seems to interfere. The butterfly would have to be perfectly centered above my clitoris in order to keep the wings from distracting me.

I did like having it glide across my stomach. Unfortunately, this was about the only thing I did enjoy having teased by this little butterfly.

My partner actually enjoyed the teasing sensations on his testicles, nipples and parts of the shaft of his penis. He did mention to me that he felt the painful sting too at times.

Our favorite bullet to use with the sleeve was the Mood powerful. It delivered the best variety of vibration strength and also gave us the option to use patterns during our foreplay. Additionally, the length the this bullet was much more appreciated. It felt a bit more natural to use and hold onto.

Teasing, maybe. Uncomfortable, undoubtedly. I would never recommend this to anyone looking to start out with toys and advanced users will certainly be left wanting more. The porous material and terrible bullet merit no more than the 1 star I am allowing them.
Follow-up commentary
I'll admit we haven't really used this since my original review. The tiny bit of enjoyment we got from it just hasn't been worth pulling it out for playtime.

I'd like to say I was found this a new, happy home, but the porous material and uncomfortable design make me more inclined to just toss it out.

Great review! A bit of a typo in the title, though; it should probably read "I'd rather have diamonds."
