Not Recommended for a Beginner...
The Pleasure Pearls by Cal Exotics are a discreet way to exercise the Kegel muscles. However, one misconception is the smaller and lighter the weights are, the easier they are to use. For beginners, I would highly recommend going with something bigger than this.

Pros
Discreet in every way (even in packaging), 8 out of 10 safety grade for material, easy to clean
Cons
Very small, no retrieval band or string, container is a bit tricky to open if you are left-handed
Ben Wa Balls have been absolutely everywhere! They were recently made popular by The Fifty Shades Trilogy. I actually heard of them on this season's premiere of Weeds, which got me curious. The Pleasure Pearls are a cute, fun item manufactured by Cal Exotics. It comes in a discreet oyster looking container that is about the size of my palm (I have small hands). Inside is a holder that is holding 2 pearl-looking balls. When looking at them, you would think that they are almost weightless, but when you pick them up, they are deceptively heavy. I believe there is some sort of metal inside a plastic, iridescent shell. This makes them look pretty innocent. I just leave the case sitting on my bathroom sink. Anybody would just think it is a decoration or something.
They were a little bit awkward the first time I used them. When I pushed one up my vaginal canal, it fell right back out. After that, I put both of them in, and walked a few blocks. One of them fell out after two blocks, and I was just stuck with a Ben Wa ball in my underwear. Moral of the story is, these things can be very discreet and you can walk around with them in without anyone even knowing you have them in, as long as you can actually hold them in. Otherwise, it can be a very awkward experience. So, these are definitely too small for a beginner, such as myself. I did not look at the dimensions, which I should have before purchasing these. This is the type of toy that you work up to, not start out with. Weak kegel muscles don't handle these very well.
The material is plastic, which gives it an 8 out of 10 safety grade. It is hypoallergenic which is a huge plus. These are incredibly easy to clean. Just wiping them down with a toy wipe would suffice. However, there is a ridge in the middle of each ball. Any area that is not completely smooth could be a possible bacteria trap, but as long as you're thorough in cleaning them, there should be no problem with it. It feels like the plastic itself is iridescent, and not painted that way, so I would find it very hard for the outside surface to disintegrate.
There is one other thing that is a little annoying about this toy. The tabs on which to open the oyster container are more suited to a right-handed person. Being left-handed, it takes me a second to figure out how to get the damn thing open. Which leads to the container awkwardly spilling out. This may not be a big deal for some, but it is something that I feel is worth mentioning.

Has anyone else found the Pleasure pearls to be a bit scary? | 2 |
Thank you for viewing Pleasure pearls – vaginal balls discontinued review page!
Thanks for sharing about these. I think I'd stick with just kegeling without the balls for now. It's hard to tell which balls I should even go for since I only do kegels without the help of products. Guess I'd try something cheap to begin with or maybe just the smart ball. Hard choice! Maybe one day I will actually try the balls though.
