Not What I Expected

The Freestyle sounded wonderful in theory; however, the music mode was a little disappointing. The vibrations weren't as sensitive as I expected them to be, and the sensor's battery fizzled out quickly. The plastic material feels silky and high quality, but I would have appreciated slightly more texture because of the shapeless design. The redeeming quality of this vibe is the manual, 7-speed mode. Though it wasn't the reason I chose this toy, it's why I continue to use it.

Use

The OhMiBod is a good beginner vibrator. I am new to using toys, and I found this to be a very fun, interesting splurge. The shape is non-threatening, and the music feature is fun to play around with, although it seemed a lot better in theory. The music function started out great, but it lost a lot of sensitivity to the musical rhythms about 10 minutes into use. It's a good thing that the manual mode has amazing vibration patterns, or this toy would have gone into the "Don't Use Again" pile.

The toy material is very, VERY smooth; it made internal stimulation a little boring when the music function stopped working correctly. It works magnificently on the clitoris, though. I like it a lot better than solely a clitoral vibrator, as I could move from the clit to the vagina and back if I felt like shaking it up. The noise level is surprisingly quiet. I could hear it easily through the sheets, but only if I took my ear buds out. Beginners would find this toy fun, but it may not be worth the price. I would suggest trying the older, corded version of this to ensure that the music function works for as long as you want it to.

Material / Texture

The Freestyle is made out of a smooth, silky plastic. It is not bendable or squishy, but the material offers the illusion that there's some give. It has a very satisfying weight, and when I opened the box, the first thing I did was just hold it in my hand and stroke it for a while. There are no curves or ridges; it's just seamless and silky. And the material doesn't give off any odor whatsoever. However, it is regrettably not waterproof, so be very careful when washing it.

Design / Shape / Size

This is a very smooth, silky toy. I had a lot of fun rubbing my hands around it, as I am a very tactile person. However, I would have preferred MORE of a texture. Although the size was perfect and the vibrations were stimulating, I found there wasn't enough unpredictability in the texture to provide any fun twists. Ridges or bumps would have been nice. This was especially true when I got worked up, as once I became more wet, the vibrator slid around easily. I was more stimulated just using the vibrations to stimulate my clitoris.

This is a very straight vibrator. There are no fun curves. The G-spot version of this may have been a better choice for me because it has more of a shape. I could not find my G-spot with the Freestyle, no matter what position I twisted myself into.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The controls of the Freestyle can be a little tricky when switching modes. I had to use two hands to twist the base of the vibrator. But once on the mode of my choosing, it was easy to use a finger to adjust the sensitivity or vibration pattern. The Freestyle is very quiet. With music going in my ears and the toy under the covers, I had to strain to hear it on middle intensity. The vibration patterns are also very invigorating with their unpredictability!

The music functionality was disappointing. It was not very sensitive to lighter notes of the music, and only responded consistently to the bass line. The wireless receiver connected to my iPod lost enough of its juice within 10-15 minutes to make the device even less sensitive to the music--enough to give up and change the mode to manual. This was a little frustrating, as it took two hours to charge before I could use it!

This vibe isn't waterproof, so care needs to be taken when washing it. There's no major downside to this though, as it's usually not advisable to bring your iPod into the shower with you. This is definitely a landlubber toy.

Care and Maintenance

This toy is not waterproof, but it can withstand a careful washing with soap and water. Making sure not to get any of the moveable parts wet, I gently lather it with soap, rinse with water, and pat dry with a clean towel. I store my cleaned Freestyle in the cute plastic box it came in, wrapped in a paper towel so it's ready for immediate use.

Packaging

The Freestyle, and all its elements arrived in a very durable-looking plastic box. It has the words "OhMiBod" written across it without any pictures or allusion to what's inside. Included was the user's manual. This was very helpful, as it gives brief, yet complete, instructions on how to operate each mode. It also told me how long I should expect to wait before the toy would be done charging for the first time.

Experience

I was so excited to receive the Freestyle. A toy that vibrates to music? What could be more fun than that? And I was entranced by the seamlessly silky surface texture when I pulled it out of the box. However, I failed to realize that this toy takes two hours to charge before the first use. Patience is not one of my virtues! After a long, almost-patient wait, it was finally ready to use. But it's a shame that my expectations did not match up to the reality.

I would not have believed it before, but there is such a thing as TOO smooth. There was just not enough friction! Once the vibrator was dampened with my natural lubricant, it became so slippery that I could barely feel it moving in and out of me. The music function was superb (and it's really fun to make a playlist based on a song's bass line), but it was not as sensitive to the rhythm or vocals as I thought it was going to be. It also lost sensitivity as time went on; the wireless receiver lost its juice really quickly. However, the 7-speed manual function was a night-saver! I switched to that when I got frustrated, and ended the experience on a high note.
